Default Cops And Alberta Motor Assoc. Giving Away Steering Wheel Locks Thursday

    Hi guys

Cops were vague about locations (apparently each District sets their own) and times, so if you want a "Club" you might want to check into this early.

The two organizations will be giving away hundreds of steering wheel locks at select locations, including the Westbrook Mall, the Superstore at 70 Ave. and other parking lots throughout the city. The Club will be given to drivers who own vehicles which are most likely to be the target of car thieves. The top 10 stolen vehicles in Calgary year-to-date are: Ford trucks, Dodge trucks, Dodge/Plymouth vans, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, GMC trucks, Dodge/Plymouth Neon, Chevrolet trucks, Jeep Cherokee and Acura Integra. The steering wheel lock giveaway program, dubbed Operation Safety Club, is a partnership between the AMA and Calgary Police Service to remind Calgarians to secure their valuables and lock their vehicles. This is the third Club giveaway that CPS and AMA have done in Calgary since 2007. In 2009, more than 6,000 vehicles were stolen in Calgary. Vehicle theft costs Albertans $60 million a year in insurance claims and another $40 million a year in non-insurance related costs including health care, law enforcement and public infrastructure. Here are some tips from the CPS and the AMA to keep your vehicle safe from harm. - Do not leave a vehicle running with the keys in it, even with the doors locked. Approximately 40 per cent of stolen vehicles recovered by the Calgary Police Service are found with the keys inside. Always close the windows, lock the doors and pocket the key. Park in well-lit and well-traveled areas. Hide valuables out of sight or take them with you. Use auto theft measures such as a steering wheel lock, a vehicle immobilizer system or alarm system. Report suspicious activity. If you see suspicious people in or around motor vehicles, call the police.

I received a lock today on my way in to work, right across from the Franklin C-train station.

    Got one at Anderson station.
We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside us.

If there's two identical cars and one has a club and one doesn't, which one do you think the thief is going to take?

If the car the thief wants, has a club -- he takes a tiny saw and cuts through the steering wheel in about 10 seconds & takes the club off.

Does anyone remember the name of the electric "shock" club? You touched it and u got a nasty shock!
Sometimes you have to take a chance, whether that be on someone, or something!
