Default Do I need that plastic barrier inside the door?

I've been doing some work on my doors so I've had the panels off and the plastic taken off for the last 8 months or so. I'm ready to put the door panels back on since I got all the wiring done and I'm wondering if I need to put the plastic back or not. I have 2 left/right sets of the plastic here that came off mine and another car but do I need it? Is it just silicone that it's put on with?

Highly recomended to put it back on. That plastic keeps water out from the interior that the rubber trim does not (from your window). I believe it also has some sound deadening capabilities (just a guess...so don't quote me on that).

Ya, put it back on even if its half assed, it still serves a purpose. Very similar to the poly which insulates your house.

If you don't you'll be pulling the panels again in 3 months once you smell the mold growing.

Mold? None of my cars have ever had that plastic stuff and I've never noticed anything, a little water leaks in your panel but that is why there are holes on the bottom of the door, I've never heard of mold growing in a door, what happens in the winter when your carpet becomes ice for 6 months, does it mold?

Doors don't drain completely and there's little to no circulation through them, especially if you leave the car sitting for a few days. Trust me, it happens and it's a stupid risk to take for 5 minutes of work.

What is the plastic protecting? A plastic door panel? Water seeps into the bottom of the door regardless of the plastic or not, and not having the plastic will create a better flow of air through the door as well

Mine have been off for years. No problems, I'm not too worried.

Mold doesn't grow on metal, it's called rust, you must have a nice piece of bread in your door or else it's coming from all the padding and stuff under your carpet, take the plastic off and the goop you will shave 2 lbs

In my old truck I originally left it off, I ended up with a cold draft from the door panels when driving at highway speed. I used some silicone to tack it back on.

Thanks Tips. It was on the inside of my door panels, coming out the window crank hole.
