this is a pretty crazy good deal if anyone wants a home server... it has a builtin RAID and the home server software allows you to ensure redundancy on certain folders and has a great backup feature to backup your laptop/desktop as well. I host all my videos on this and then stream to my media center from there.

Actually it isn't RAID at all. The duplication features that provide redundancy are part of a technology built into M$ Windows Home Server called "Drive Extender" that allows you to turn on and off folder duplication[Which by the way you need more than one HDD installed in the system to enable the feature]. It isn't even a software RAID. In the Windows Home Server beta codename 'VAIL' this drive extender technology has officially been dropped from future builds and for protection of your media you should build DIY systems with RAID or ensure if you buy a commercial product that it has disks in RAID configuration, at least RAID 1 for mirrored drives, if you have more than 2 disks you'll likely want RAID 5 or better.

HP has offically dropped all MediaSmart Server and Data Vault home and SOHO products.

i stand corrected on the RAID aspect. still works great regardless and achieves the same thing that any home user would want out of RAID. just need to buy another drive and add it in if you want to use this feature. the fact that the product has been dropped doesn't really affect the bottom line: this is a perfectly working and well functioning brand new home server for atleast $100 or more off the best price I can find on the internet. if anyone can find a better price I will beat it 10%, I just want it gone. Personally love this server, I just already have one.
