Default (UofC) Econ course limitation in a finance major

Does anyone know how many econ course I can take as a finance major at the uofc?

I've taken Econ 201, 203, 341 which are all required.

I'm enrolled in 339 this semester and it works out on degree navigator but UofC's system has been wrong before. Can anyone tell me if i'm OK taking this course this semester?

From what I remember, 201 and 203 are mandatory then you're only allowed to take 1 senior level econ class that counts towards your degree. So since you've already taken 341, taking 339 won't be credited towards your degree.. This is what it was 4 years ago but things may have change

yea op I think the best thing you can do is go in and ask, not that I don't think people here are informed, but rather (at least with my degree) it seems that each degree stream has different rules (ie: person graduating a year before you in the same program may have a different set of requirements)

You can take 2 300+ ECON courses as a Finance major.

Hmm, yeah might want to check with Haskayne...

For all business students, I believe it has always been 1.5 FCE (so 3 courses) max ECON courses towards your degree (unless of course you are double majoring in ECON also).

    Finance major here.

I've taken 4 ECON classes, and I understand this is the absolute maximum.

    I took 201 and 203, both required.

    311 as a Sr. Non-Commerce Option.

301 as required in the "fourth year" of Finance.

Of course, talk to your advisor if there's any uncertainty.

    Good Luck.

You have to take ECON 201 and 203 to even get into Haskayne. As a Finance major, you're allowed to take two additional ECON classes (with the exception of a combined degree). One of which has to be: ECON301, ECON303, ECON341, ECON373, ECON387 or ECON395. The other ECON class can be anything else (I think as long as it's 300+).

So 301 isn't a requirement for your fourth year, unless I'm understanding you wrong. As long as one of your ECON classes falls into the 6 courses I listed above, you're fine.

If you're looking for easy ECON 300+ classes, take ECON 341 and ECON 377 with Tracey. If you're looking for useful classes, take anything oil and gas related or 301/303 with Atkins.

    Cheers
