Are Ctrain parkades just vandalism/theft/theft from vehicle traps waiting to happen? Looking to reserve a pass for canyon meadows so wondering what people's experiences have been like and the security of these lots is like. Would suck to have anything happen while at work.

Not sure they are that much worse than other big parking lots. Make sure you have comprehensive on the vehicle and/or drive a beater.

^Yeah. If there's nothing flashy or tempting in the car, you're fine.

Yes. You can add door dings and hit & run damage to that list too. And exposure to hail all summer long.

Buy a beater if you are going to be parking at the C-train station. Just pick up some $2000 POS and use that to go from your house to the station. If you drive a nice car you will be on the hook for all deductibles and subsequent premium increases, with 0% chance of ever catching the person who did the damage.

I used to see people trolling the lots alllll the time when I took the train, going up and down the rows checking door handles, looking in windows, etc.

I also remember shopping for my previous car, I was looking at tons of Civics, Mazda 3's, Golfs, etc. and a lot of them were C-train station commuters, they were all covered in scratches, door dings, etc. Total garbage.

It's not the same as a normal parking lot because:

    1) You are there 5 days a week 8-10 hours a day
    2) C-train stations bring in all kinds of crime / vagrants

5 years of parking my car at the ctrain and not one door ding, hit and run, or break in. Maybe your Ctrain bias is showing.

Yes you are there 5 days a week 8-10 hrs a day, but so are the cars next to you. It isn't like it is a constant rotation of cars like a mall parking lot with people in and out all the time.

I did a couple times - they do nothing. It's not illegal to walk around a c-train lot.

My GF's old car got broken into 1-2 times a week (clearly the same person, bit of an unusual scenario and a long story), and they also did nothing - someone trolling a c-train lot is the least of their concerns.

my car got hit a few years back PITA to deal with, but that's what insurance is for.

There is this one guy who i am considering leaving a note on his car. 2-3x per week he parks next to me and parks on my line. I park next to a wall so I move over a fair bit and he takes up the gap i leave.
I take my daughter to daycare DT and she is still rear facing so I need room to open my door and his parking so close is making it hard to open my door wide enough. I'm running out of room on the wall side to take up.

I don't want to start a parking war with him but I need him to not park on my line.

So if you front in, back in and park on the line.
or vice versa. (caveat: I'd only do it if you drive a beater)

It's like those people who hog the arm rest for the entire flight... be passive aggressive about it

I remember when I had my Golf R, and parked on the furthest side of the lot.

Someone backed into my side mirror. Broke the whole thing.

Was just glad that there was a cop near by that saw the whole thing, otherwise I would've had a hit-and-run.

My best advice is to back into the stall, and park on the line.

It's an angled parking stall at 69th.
I'm worried about them giving tickets for not parking with the plate facing out as well.

    edit:
i don't know how long i'm going to have my current car anyway, once I get an order confirmation on my RS3 i;ll be selling my golf and then I may look at parking elsewhere where he can't park next to me.

    Default Green Line approval

    http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-...llion-annually

Whole line was estimated to cost 4.5 billion now were spending 4.65 billion to build a small section that already has decent transit access.

Did anyone really expect anything else from CT and the City?

I wonder what the final price tag will be once its really done? 10 billion?

The real bad news is regardless of what they build it's still going to be the same unreliable transit service. Can't tell you how many years they've been promising to phase out those POS old trains.

Isn't the new line the low floor level trains incompatible with the rest of the system? Or did that change?

20km of low floor trains (70 trains), 14 stations, 8 bridges, 3 park n Ride stations (1900 stalls), 3 tunnels..

WEST LRT was a billion for just 8km and 6 stations..

price tag includes land, stations, construction, buying the trains and more. its really not THAT bad of a pricetag

friend works for the Greenline portion of the city.

Does your friend have a good reason as to why their initial estimates were so far off base?

I bet even the just approved portion doesn't get finished for south of 5.

I just want a timeline for the train section by my house to be done so I can collect my hipster transit lover uptick in property value and I can sell and move on with my life, avoiding the inevitable crime wave to follow. I mean they are just talking about putting a train up here and there has been two shootings within a week
