Cheap car ideas.. Need help

So since gas should be hitting pretty high this summer and I can only run premium in my mustang I need a car to be able to drive daily..

Something cheap, reliable and good on gas. Can be the slowest thing in this world I could care less I just want it to be cheap on gas and insurance.

Im looking to spend $2500 max. Dont want anything thats been heavily modded or abused.

4 door is a plus and 5 speed is an even bigger plus. 2 door will work aswell tho.

What could I get? Fire off some links of your car for sale or something in this thread.

I've picked up a number of $1000 cars off Kijiji.
Most recent is a 2000 dodge neon for a commuter/winter beater which gets ~30mpg highway.

I found the PERFECT geo metro but it sold lol! Hopefully I can find something really soon but Im not gonna spend that kind of money on some super crappy car tho.

The biggest thing I can suggest; for cars you are buying in that price range, how many km's are on it is the number one determining factor to how reliable they will be. ALMOST all of them will have been beaten on, so getting the lowest km out of the bunch is essential. Any civic, cadavalier, neon, corolla will do what you want reliably. I'd say find a 4 door sedan civic with under 200,000kms as they aren't really in demand so they don't get hit with the hot-hatch tax and call it a day.

If you could increase your budget, I would seriously consider an echo hatch. The ~'04 models are now around $4k with 200k or less on them, with the build quality being a huge leap forward over any of the other models I suggested.

If your vehicle was able to take regular gas would you still have a need for another car? Surely the combined costs for another vehicle would far outweight the extra 10c a litre.

Its not just the gas I need a cheap car to get me to work.

I really dont wanna be parking my car at my work anymore mainly.

Just a cheap beater to get to and from work and on rainy days.

Just picked up a 2002 focus wagon with low mileage for my wife for $3k. I know thats a hair above your budget but I have seen the sedan versions going for $500-$1000 less. The zetec is nearly bulletproof and so is the transmission. The 2.0L is good on gas and parts are really cheap whenever you need them.

lol... my thoughts exactly - unless he is planning on using about 25000L of gas this summer, it won't be worth it (+ insurance on another car...)

get a LS400 or a Q45, so damn comfy and dead reliable. not the best on gas but they take reg and for being v8s they use less gas than any sr'd 240 i have owned or my jeep
