An opportunity has come up to work over in Jakarta, Indonesia. It's still in the early stages of negotiation, so I'm sure more info (ie: living conditions, flights home, etc.) would probably come through as we go further along.

What I want to know is if anybody here has had any experience working as an expat in that part of the world and if you can provide some more info. Just want to prepare myself and have more time to think this through before committing any further.

These are the questions I have in mind:

I understand you would live in a common expat community, but would that require you to look for your own place to live?
What sort of housing are there?
Medical - How safe/trustworthy are the doctors and medicine there?
Are there lots of young families to interact with in the expat community?
I understand that there is tension or hatred towards the Chinese from the locals. With me being Chinese, are the tension still really high?

I guess these are some of the questions to begin with.
