    Default Riviera Maya destination wedding

So throwing my life away this year and looking at doing a destination wedding in Mexico. I've read some older threads on it but want to see if anyone has anything new to add.

I read about requiring blood work done. Is that still the norm? And if anyone has a decent place to recommend please let me know.

My cousin had his wedding at the barcelo maya palace last year, its a beautiful place very accomodating lots of activities to do and seems to be a number one wedding destination. There wasn't a day that went by were nobody wasnt getting married lol. Highly recommended!

My recommendation would be to save yourself a bit of hassle and get married here, but hold the ceremony there. Then you don't have to worry about any of the local requirements (ie: blood tests, have to stay minimum X number of days, etc...) You don't even have to tell your guests.

This is what most people do. I think after the third destination wedding I attended I finally realized they weren't even legally married until they got back to Canada and had a court marriage.

This is actually the plan I think. It helps take care of all the problems that could result trying to make it official out of country. Just trying to nail down a decent resort that would be accommodating to this sort of arrangement.

Most hotels would be accomodating to this type of request. Plus I think the certificate comes in spanish (obviously I paid a tonne of attention to this part ) ..... Just look for renewal of vows etc.... We did ours in Cancun. Don't be shy to ask travel agencies or even call westjet vacations etc to ask for recommendations too.

My sister got married at Barcelo in November as well. We had about 50 family members there. Everyone had great things to say about the resort and wedding.

Can anyone recommend a decent travel agent who's dealt with this type of booking before?

Consider getting married in the US virgin islands. US marriage license and the weather is as good or better than much of Mexico. I just came back from being married at Bolongo Bay resort in St. Thomas and it was awesome.

Still doesn't feel the same as doing it all there. That is part of the fun of it all.

Got married 3 years ago at Dream Tulum. Great resort and amazing food!! I would totally go back for our anniversary some day. Still have yet to go to a resort that had 5 star dining each night without the need for bracelets or dinner reservations each night. Plus 24 hr room service!
    Good luck in your decision.

There is a fantastic beach around Playa that is nude. You can wed your bride in the nude in total privacy.

Barcelo in Maya Riveria is just amazing as mentioned before... you don't have to stay at the palace... all the 5 resorts in that complex are just amazing....there was not one complaint when i went for a trip.. food, activities, service, clean, drinks choice.. everything just top notch ( i stayed at the maya beach.. which is the lowest rated of the 5 there)
