I dunno about that Eggplant, I am a sucker for white, but overall I think the dealer and car is top notch.

My significant other was hell bent on getting a BMW X5M. And I mean hell bent. He had the packages that we wanted, colors etc all picked out. I managed to convince him to go over to porsche to look at the the cayenne. I said that for the 100+ that we were going to spend, we are looking at all of the choices.

In the end, we bought a 2009 Turbo S from the US. BMW doesn't compare. The finishings, the drive, the hp, the service.... It is all amazing.

When we were looking last year, all in, we were looking at around $120k for the version of the x5M that we wanted. To buy the turbo S here in Calgary, all in was $178k. By the time we shipped the truck, took care of all the inspections etc etc, we paid a total of $107k.

All of that being said, I wouldn't consider a base version of the Cayenne. The entire feeling of it, doesn't compare to the x5M. However, the x5M doesnt compare to the turbo S.

$1200.00 inspection at Porsche and if it passes the balance of the warranty is transfered.

Yep. South Center Porsche has been awesome with everything. The warranty is for a few more years still.

We have brought 3 cars from the US, 2 porsches and 1 lexus. All of them were significant savings compared to here.

Here's the key to avoiding that. Buy it porsche certified already. That way it's already done and in the system for the Canadian dealerships. That was one of the pre-requisites for the cayenne. I didn't want to pay for the certification. The dealership we used took care of it all. They were so good, we will deal with them again. They bent over backwards for us.

** Edit... Cos, this is the truck you saw when I met you for the keychain.

X5M any day pretty much. I may be a bit biased or whatever, but I never liked the looks of the Cayenne. It doesn't feel like a SUV, although this was a pre 2011 model I test drove. Just didn't fit well.

I would love to get a X5M and if I am feeling too crazy, then I would love to make it into something like this.

Although this particular version has 750hp, but don't really need to worry about that even with the X5M's stock 550.

Yes Porsche isn't a douche like BMW when it comes to US vehicles, and South Centre has been much improved with the new service manager.

I don't think he's worrying about repair costs if he's buying them brand new though.

I say take the Porsche, even though you dont have to worry about repair cost in the first few years, I cant comment on the 2011 X5, but I heard a few friends of mine who got the X5 brand new, and had to turn around to the service bay on the day of pickup. Go figure,

also isnt it true that porches have one of the highest re-sale value amongst most cars?

Just Lease and save yourself the head ache.

I sold bmw's for a while so I am kind of partial to them. With that said, the interior on the new porsche is 10x that of BMW (pretty simple/plain), and although I have not driven the Cayenne, the only better handling vehicle than a BMW in my opinion is a porsche.

don't listen them. Just test drive both and pick the one you like the most.

    Which X5?
BTW the new 2011 X5 5.0i has Twin turbo V8.

    X5 5.0i (4.4L, Twin turbo V8, 400 HP / 450 tq)
    Porsche Cayenne S (4.8L, NA V8, 400 HP / 369 tq)

    X5 M (4.4 L, Twin turbo V8, 555 HP / 500 tq)
    Porsche Cayenne Turbo S (4.8L, Twin turbo V8, 500 hp / 516 tq)

Cayenne for sure. But repair costs will kill you and its definitely unreliable - either are great suv's.

To be fair, should take the X6 to compare to the Cayenne, in term of handling.

For repair cost .. both are not cheap after warranty, while Porsche is on the top of dependability report, BMW is +/- middle.

Made in Germany vs US built as well. (German built, better QC, but higher cost, plus import duty, US built ... well, lower cost.

Problem for Cayenne now, is availability .. globle wide, vs you can walk in to a BMW dealership and pick whatever X5/X6 you want.
