If you are going out to Cabazon, you may as well stop at Ontario Mills on the way. It is very similar to Cross Iron Mills (Mills being the basis of all these malls).

Last time I was there, they had a starbucks outlet. You could get starbucks branded mugs for 1/3 the price of the regular stores, if you are into that kind of thing.

For electronics, find a Fry's. It makes futureshop look like a corner store.

Also, if you go to So Cal, In and Out burger is a must.

Thanks for the San Diego ideas! I'm laying in my hotelroom bed wondering what kind of sadistic moron (genius?) would run a fucking freight train through downtown. FUCK.

(Yes, I know the train/airport were there first. I actually like the approach, something about flying "into" downtown and coming in below skyscraper-level...)

I'll be in Sac town at the end of March with the wife and looking for something to do... Was planning on driving down to San Jose(family) then San Fran since I only have 3 days... or should I just suck it up and drive down to LA???

Any recommendations on hotels or even ideal locations for hotels in San Fran/LA, cheap car rentals, events during that time? Any input would be appreciated.

Also, any recommendations for public golf courses in the Sac town area?

    Great post btw!!

Like anything it depends on what you like to do while on holidays, but here were some things:

    Tourist Stuff:

    San Diego Zoo
Safari Park (formerly Wild Animal Park)
    USS Midway Aircraft Carrier
    Whale Watching (seasonal)
    Aquariums/Nature Centers
Lots of Museums & various tours
    Harbor Cruises
    Mission Beach
    La Jolla Beach
    Balboa Park
    Sea World
Lots of scenic drives around the coast
    Surfing/Boogie Boarding
Water parks (seasonal, most open in May or June)
A couple great indoor go karting places
    Awesome food/restaurants everywhere

I'm sure there was lots we missed too.

    For the shoppers:

Las Americas Premium Outlets (15 min from DT San Diego, slightly larger than the Carlsbad ones)

Carlsbad Premium Outlets (closer to L.A., 30-40 min from DT San Diego)

We bought "Go San Diego" cards, available in 3, 5, or 7 day increments. Basically everything you can think of, including knotts berry farm, sea world, the zoo, etc. is all included so if you do lots of stuff there is huge savings to be had. Free admission everywhere, discounts at restaurants & gift shops, free go kart sessions, etc.

I love driving to California; every year is always an adventure.

Zephyr got everything down to a tee! I'm surprised you don't have El Pollo Loco as a place to eat. So fuckin' good and it's everywhere in Cali!

here's my agenda for 2 nights in LA
    Hollywood
    - Forecourt of the Stars at Grauman's Chinese Theatre
    - Hollywood Walk of Fame
    - Hollywood Sign
    - Universal Studios Hollywood - debating whether we should go or not

    Beverly Hills
    - Beverly Center
    - Rodeo Drive

    Downtown LA
    - Angels Flight
    - LA Fashion District
    - Chinatown

    Beaches
    -Venice Beach
    -Santa Monica Beach

We can probably do Hollywood and Beverly Hills in one day, let's watch Thor or Fast Five!
2nd day maybe visit LA Downtown and Chinatown then hit the beach rest of the day.
3rd day, chill, visit other stuff then drive back to SF
    any thoughts, suggestions?
Food wise..all I'm planning on eating is In-N-Out and Jollibee

We are staying at Best Western Hollywood Plaza. couple of blocks to Hollywood, $250 for 2 nights and free parking, I though it was a great deal!

I'll post my itinerary for San Francisco next.. but hotel and parking is costing me twice as much than LA already.

When we went down we learned this ...

    Screw Google.

Buy a GPS ... GPS service (garmin) is WAY better than it is up here.

Disneyland for example has parking in different locations on different days. The gps guided us right into the correct lot and on all trips about town helped us avoid traffic and even helped us find nearby eats!

Disneyland is a tricky one, it has the old school Mickey and Friends structure and also the new Toy Story lot. Garmin is a good GPS to have here. But Google Maps is still best for traffic..

I'll add more stuff soon, I forgot about this thread..dam American ADD....
