Change of Province Tax Questions?

I moved to BC in mid-way through 2010 from AB and all my earnings in 2010 were from AB, none from BC.

Because I am a resident by the end of 2010 in BC, do I still claim those earnings on a BC tax return? Or do I file both a BC and AB tax return for both segments of the year?

You file personal tax returns based on residency. Residency is determined based on where you're living at December 31 in the year. So in your case, you tick the Alberta box on the return.

I moved to AB a few years back on Dec 27 and saved over $1k in tax, even though all my earnings were from MB. BC has a lower effective personal tax rate up to ~80k or so, so if you're under that you'll have a small benefit, but if you're over you'll probably have a smaller refund than you planned.
