    Default Truck Bumper

The more I read about them, the more unsure I am. Sagging front suspension, front dive on moderate braking, etc. The only thing really pushing me towards the upgrade is that they look bad-ass and I would NOT have to worry about someone hitting my front bumper ever again lol - and when I do go wheeling I would have no concerns over ripping my stock (low hanging) front bumper off.

I'd search the net or the xterra forums(if thats what you got) for info on these bumpers for your ride. Most of these probably way a ton and will alter the ride because of it. Another big thing is the finish getting all jacked in winter. There should be a thread about sugarphreaks nightmare bumper on here. That's a sick xterra though!

Thanks for the reply's guys - I have read a little bit about them on the second gen xterra forum, and they defn mention the weight (130lbs) throwing off the stock suspension and changing the handling. The handling part doesn't bother me, the truck handles like a pig anyways.

I know this is a loaded question, but what would an estimate be for upgrading the front shocks to something that could handle the extra weight? I just don't have a lot of background in this type of thing.

    Thanks again.

you're probably looking in the ball park of 500ish for a pair??

but its not the shocks that support the extra weight, its the coils, so you may want to find a set of stiffer coils

I can't imagine 130lbs should do too much? Wouldn't it be similar to driving with a 130lb passenger? I don't really know, just asking.

Yes, you are right - stiffer coils - just looking into these now.

I am guessing it is exaggerated because the weight is way out in front of the axle - It causes anywhere from 1/2" to 1-1/4" sag and "dangerous" braking characteristics and premature wear on suspension components. I have modified cars all my life and in my experience the gain from modifications are outweighed by the pain in the ass they become. I was hoping to just add this bumper and drive around like a pimp, doesn't look like that will happen without some suspension upgrades.

Here is a picture - He had about 1 inch of sag.

^^Any suggestions on where I could find one? Aluminum would be a great option.

I don't know who (if anyone) sells one off the shelf, but check out the welding thread and maybe ask for quotes for a custom fabricated bumper

Talk to Jay at Chanda for a custom bumper, the Shrockworks is nice but I have heard stories about massive problems around delivery timelines. Quality is top notch though.

Thinking about it, a steel tube bumper with aluminum plate bolted to it could look good and be light

Look up the Nissan forums for some info and I'm sure you'll find a tidbit or two. From experience with the Toyota's and it will apply to your Nissan as well. If you add a bumper and plan on a winch, and a skid plate... opt for the heavier coils so they could hold the weight of the added accessories. If you have the proper coils, you won't notice the front end dive under braking. IMO, please do a Shrockworks bumper on your Xterra cuz' it looks so badass! A custom fabbed bumper on a late model truck doesn't look right IMO.

WWW.products.com for all 2nd gen frontiers and x terra. Look at the 4wd basic radflo coilover package and upgrade to either the leaf pack or 5150 bilsteins in the rear. Not only will it support the aftermarket bumber, but you will gain travel, lift a few inches, and be able to fit 33s.

After I got my 2002 X I joined clubexterra. really good forum. Here's a discussion on brush gaurds.

I think someone here already mentioned it, but basically they say that if you plan to go offroading don't get one, otherwise go nuts because it looks badass haha.
