    Default Kiji flakes....

I've been trying to ditch shit on Kijiji all winter. Mostly for free, some modestly priced household items.

Ads are typically greeted by a flurry of response.. and then no followup to meet/call. I'm sick of having my time wasted.

I suspect that the less an item costs, the more likely people are going to waste my time.

At this point, it's going to be more economic to truck my crap to the dump.

I don't think it's the cost, it's the fact that it's the Internet where everyone thinks they're a super hero and have no thought of how they affect someones ilfe... I post cars on kijiji ranging from $5-50k and it dosent make a differnce on them showing up.

Most Kijiji flakes want you to pay them or deliver for taking your free/cheap items,

We had a ad out for FREE kittens, this lady called my wife and wanted her to deliver a kitten to her house, she stated that she had no money for bus fare or a cab. My wife then asked how would she be able to get the cat fixed and get all its necessary shots, and to buy food to feed it, it all costs qite a bit when you add it up.

Kijiji is full of idiots... People wanting me to deliver a 5 dollar xbox game to the other side of the city or selling an iPod cable and a few asked me what kind of iPod it was and why so cheap...

Kijiji results in a lot of tire kickers, I find.

I've sold a few things, and given away others. I gave away a 27" RCA CRT TV once because I just couldn't be arsed to try and actually 'sell' it.

I've sold things and I've given things away. The things I've sold usually took a week to sell. The things I've given away literally took twenty minutes, tops.

No f-ing kidding. I can't believe people ask if you can deliver. Just because we're giving something away doesn't mean we're the f-ing red cross.

Put it up on here, somebody will take it and a lot less people that won't follow through.

    Kijiji goes like:

“Hey you still got the item?”
    “yes”
    *no reply*

    Or…

“hey will you take $80 for your item? (listed for $100)
“sure here’s my number… call me and we’ll get this done”
    *no reply*

    Or

“Hey I want this item badly, I’ve been looking for this forever, I’ll take it asap”
“ok here’s my phone number I’m free whenever. Call me and lets get it done”
    *no reply*

Or onther good one I always get

    “Hey still got the item?”
    Yep still got it
“will you take $100 for it?
    Hmm I’m asking 200, 100 is a little low, I can do 160
    Well how about 140
*grumble grumble* ok fine 140 is good
“awesome! I’m out of town until next January, can you hold this item for me for the next 8 months until I get back in town?”

Kijiji is awesome for me. I usually sell shit for cheap that I plan on getting rid of anyways and get a ton of emails. I sold my old blackberry curve on there last week and it was gone within 2 hours.

I always put clearly in the bottom of my add

**** Price is listed as Firm NOT OBO. Do Not offer less, I will not respond to your email. I will NOT drive across the city to drop this item off or meet you part way. I am near xxxxx location on work days and in the evenings I am at home near xxxx area. First come first serve, I will not hold this item.*****

I've been very successful with Kijiji as well (or I should say my wife ).

Yeah there are a lot of flakes but really, it doesn't take a lot of effort to reply to emails or phone calls. The part that pisses me off the most is when you set a time with someone and then they flake. At the same time, I would never schedule a pick up/drop off time for when I had something else to do...

The way I try to view it: The bullshit I go through trying to sell stuff on Kijiji is my payment for advertising for free.

listed my truck on kijiji. got around 100 emails and 20 phone calls (told them to text me) and 20 texts. all in all 4 ppl showed up. 1st guy lowballed the shit out of me. the 2nd one said he liked it and would come back the next day to pick it up never showed. then the 3rd guy didnt even contact me just showed up at my house randomly when i was not home. started the truck up turned it off and left. LEAVING THE KEY ON. battery froze overnight so i had to get a new one....
finally another guy randomly showed up and bought it.

WTF dude? Have you been in my account?!?! Those are like *identical* to my own transactions.

I don't get the people who write to ask "Is this still available?". Are they writing a book? Doing research? Idly curious?

That's the question I get the most. Or do you still have this item.

or "what color is the white xbox you are selling?"

I get allot of those "no reply" emails too. Or "is it still available for sale" e-mails - just part of the deal right.

Generally my experiences have been positive, One questionable one was when I was trying to sell my Keireg Coffee Maker.

I was asking a very reasonable $80 (its $160 in the store). Sure enough he comes by to check it out. Bargained a bit over the email and ended up at $70.

Him:"your sure nothings wrong with it right? I know where you live"
Me: "Uh yeah, don't buy it if your not comfortable with it, I will just contact the next guy who is interested"
Him: "So how does this thing work"
Me: "Pretty simple, fill the water, put the k cup in, and press this button"
    Him: "Do you have instructions?"
Me: "No, but they are available online"
Him: "Where are all the coffee cups"
Me: "it doesn't have any, That was explicit in the ad"
Him: "Well how am I supposed to make coffee"
Me: "Go anywhere and buy thek- cups"
Him: "So now I have to go buy cups for this thing, great, are regular mugs ok, or do I need to buy"
    Me: "No, the coffee k-cups"
Him: "You want me to buy them for you?"
    Me: "What?"
Him: "$60 take it or leave it"
    Me: "No thanks"
Him: (all flustered) "fine, goodbye" and storms out of my house

30 seconds later door bell rings
Him: "Give it to me" as he hands me $70

Later that night he calls me

Him: "I don't know how to work it"
Me: (Go though the instructions again), "really download the manual online, just type in B70 instructions"
Him: "I have one at work and know how to use it."
    Me: "ok"

Calls me about two more times after, again I walk him though the instructions at which point he hangs up going "Yeah, I know how to do it"

    Last time he calls me
Him: "I want my money back, the machine is broken and making horrible sounds"
    Me: "What? Like what"
Him: "When I put in the water, it starts gurgling and bubbling for 3 minutes and doesn't do anything, I want my money back"
    Me: "Thats the water boiling"
Him: "I know how to use it, thanks"

For the record, he was a Caucasian guy, before anyone asks.

I've got a *ton* of "is this still available" questions.

So I've made a point of stating in my ad "If this ad is online, it is still available".

Oddly (or perhaps, as expected), it has done nothing to curb these questions.
