Those comments you quoted from CBC are true - I can confirm from first hand experience.

The real question is why did it take so long for a group of CIA/US ARMY/SAS backed rebels with money and supplies from an international coalition, and air support/satellite surveillance/drones, guided missiles etc.. to 'liberate' the country?

The thing with libya is, it's a tribal country with existing tensions over land and resources. The way I understand things, Benghazzi was treated like the red headed step child and was the source of many protests and coup attempts, it was the source of the protests and the rebel army.

Also, the western media exaggerated the atrocities:

It's disappointing that Canada got involved in another lie of a war for oil on behalf of US interests.

I hope things work out for Libyans and they end up with a truly democratic country, and not another drawn out civil war hell hold under a pro-west puppet government.

All the NATO countries will walk away feeling, talking heroic and such, meanwhile this country will turn out exactly like Egypt. Hardcore muslims overturning the newly formed government and instilling their wacked out values.

This is a disaster but the NATO countries will all claim victories to protect their fragile egos.

Who really fucking cares what happens now, if those morons can't run a country let them kill each other. We got rid of Daffy for them and now its their turn to unfuck themselves and try to form a proper government. If they can't do, fuk em, not our problem any more. We gave them a chance.

He got droned. Somehow I knew it.

Naw, we don't need anti-aircraft defenses in Canada... Just let any rogue US military general fly one into Rob Anders.

I always felt drones were kind of a cheap win. It would be like flying a remote control plane with a stick of dynamite into someone. There is no risk of life (no pilot) and no serious penalty if you accidentally blew up a school or a church (which will happen in the future when everyone & dog gets their hand on one). Much like a nuke, one can plausibly deny that one had control over the drone "It was the French, not me!" and/or "I thought that building was a weapons factory, and not a milk factory!"

how come no source? i read a mirage shot the convoy up, they slowed, then in a gun fight between bodyguards and rebels he gets hit in the cross fire, injured he goes to those drain tunnels to hide, they pull him out and stomp fest then shot as well as his one son?

who knows, but now ~40+ years of iron fisting, he's in a freezer in the middle of a desert : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-15398866

I'm also very confused, from all I read, Gaddafi ran a socialist country in which education was on par w/ western standards, housing for the poor, subsidised transport and energy...lowest infant mortality rate in N. Africa and the Middle East.

    Yes. thats all true.

What's ironic, is that the riots started in Benghazzi because a massive housing project wasn't finished on time. Where are all the OWS haters to bash the rebels for rioting for handouts?

i don't know if you guys saw the picture of his whole dead body in the freezer (GRAPHIC: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/22/wo...emc=rss&src=ig)

but when I look at that, all i can keep thinking is "can't they find something better to store his body on than a dirty, 2-cm-thick foam mattress from the 1970s?" Like c'mon, can't they at least get a stretcher, gurney, or a bodybag.

It boils down to Ghadafi selling oil to China and Russia and the US
getting cut out of the contracts.

    Other interesting information:

Libyas biggest customers for oil were Ireland, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal.

These are the same countries that are bankrupt and about to bring the entire world financial system down.

Italy, france etc... held billions of dollars of Libyan investment money.

Some are speculating that the take over of Libya, was akin to a 200Billion Euro bailout for the PIGS.

    Maybe just another coincidence.

I really don't get why Khadafi is such a bad man.

Ok, he hoarded gold and money in the tens of Billions and let the rest of the people fight for scraps. So do many billionaires, except that in the rest of the world, they let regular people get into millions of dollars worth of debt - and then charge them interest on it instead of simply not letting them have any money in the first place.

Respectively - Libya is one of the most educated and prosperous of all African nations.

I think Libya may live to regress back to the rest of Africa, and greatly regret this revolt.

Along with human rights groups, the US and other countries are now calling for an investigation into Gadaffi's death. I think that's a good idea, since regardless of what crimes Gadaffi committed, we should be holding ourselves and leaders of other countries to higher standards than that.

It would have been nice to have a trial to show that the new Libya isn't going to resort to the same tactics that Gaddafi did.

There are videos on the net now, along with new stories about how Gadaffi died.

He was still alive, captured, dragged around and beaten, then killed.

Not exactly a good start for this new 'democracy'

My feeling is that this country will be ruled again by a strong man, or some puppet dictator. The benfit to the people will by negligible, and the only real difference is that all of the wealth of the country will go directly into the pockets of European interests now.
