Absolutely terrible... To the fact that there are some endangered species in this place too. There is info on what you can do to speak out on this. Apparently Alberta Wildlife Act is dropping the ball heavily on this one.

There have been lots of contact to the MLA. Apparently their inbox is being flooded with emails as we speak. I guess this has been going on since the 90's... They got "shutdown" once but only slapped on the wrist with three offences.

Anyone actually been there? I was, looked like a normal farm to me, didn't see any animals in duress at all. Conditions looked better than most farms I've worked in or visited. I think when people go there they expect it will be like a multi-million dollar operation and all fancy like our zoo here. It's not, it'a farm for animals. Just happens to have quite a variety of them.

But that's the thing, a lot of the animals they keep there aren't domesticated work animals that belong on a farm. If they can't afford to keep the animals that they currently have in a habitat similar to the one they came from, then they probably shouldn't have the animals at all.

Want to run a zoo in Alberta? It's easy! According to the Zoo Standards released by SRD in April 2006 all you need is:

1. Own some land
2. Resident of Alberta
3. Get some municipal permits
4. Get some insurance (might come in handy when those tigers climb out of the enclosure)
5. File a decommission plan in case zoo fails
6. Submit a written agreement between zoo and vet. That's right - a real vet does not have to be on staff! Savings: $100k a year
7. Pay $100 to province in bs license fee
8. Other misc. zoo development plans that you or I could put together in a few weeks
