How loud is too loud?
Calgarians will get a chance to let the city know at one of two excessive vehicle noise open houses.
The open houses will give residents a chance to discuss with city staff, get information on current legislation, listen to calibrated sound levels, watch a video of noise-monitoring technology, and fill in a survey, said Bill Bruce, director of animal and bylaw services.
The open houses will be held at the following dates, locations and times:
• Wednesday, April 6. 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Scenic Acres School main gymnasium. 50 Scurfield Way N.W.
• Thursday, April 7. 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Wildwood School main gymnasium. 120-45 Street S.W.
The open houses will focus on excessive noise from all types of vehicles, vehicles with modified mufflers, and those in need of repair.
A report is due back to council on May 18 that includes a definition on excessive vehicle noise, penalties, noise enforcement options, a cost estimate for the technology and any provincial and federal legislative constraints.
