Report: Subaru predicts 50% sales hike for 2012 Impreza
by Aaron Richardson (RSS feed) on Apr 28th 2011 at 5:58PM

"According to Ward's Auto, Subaru brass are expecting the 2012 Impreza to sell around 60,000 units a year, or half again as many as the car's current 40,000-unit total. Subaru executive vice president of North America Tom Doll says the car fills gaps in the company's lineup that prevented it from being as competitive as it could have been.

Subaru claims the new Impreza will return 36 miles per gallon on the highway, a figure that would put the car on the top of the all-wheel-drive pile for fuel economy. The gas mileage figures come courtesy of a new-for-2012 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder reigning in 148 horsepower. The upcoming Impreza will also be lighter than the outgoing model, making fuel-sipping a little easier.

With all the new tweaks, Subaru is hoping Impreza sales can push the brand's overall total from 264,000 vehicles last year to closer to 300,000. That's a heady goal to be sure, but the company is confident enough in the new car's appeal to make a bold prediction. Only time will tell if such hopefulness is well founded."
I wish them good luck. The more money they make with selling these cars the more they can invest in the WRX and STi

I can't stand the look from the back. The front will take time to grow on me, but its okay.

I still haven't pulled the trigger on my Subaru purchase. Likely going to go with a 2011 Sport...unless this 2012 somehow really impresses me.

Anyone know when they are arriving?

I got a card in the mail with no date but 2% rate loyalty deduction.

CVT is good for 5.5l/100kms on highway. I can make it to Vancouver on one shot conserving fuel haha

Seriously contemplating offing both the GTI and WRX and replace it with one, slow, reliable daily driver.

November is what I've heard. Prices have been released. Cheaper than outgoing model with more equipment.

You sure about that? According to threads at NASOIC the Limited package is $1000 more than the outgoing model at almost $29k.

It is fairly ugly and plain the 2012, but hopefully their launch back into the rallying word will change this up again...

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

This car is impressive in the sense it gets pretty much the same fuel economy as my Honda, has AWD and is bigger. I cannot think of a reason to not upgrade.

It's not ugly like the outgoing gen but at the same time it joins the 2012 Civic as a bland and a little outdated in the styling dept inside and out. Impressive how they kept it under 3000 lbs while every other automaker's cars seem to get heavier.
