Default Put an offer in on a new Vette, Dealer refuses to sell to Canadians.

Ok so this week, I put an offer in for full asking price on this vette.

    http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...y-must-go.html

Supersonic Blue/Ebony/Black Top 3LT Package, Manual, Chrome Wheels, Dual Mode Exhaust, Navigation, Grand Sport Car Cover

Its the last one on the page... ok so FULL ASKING PRICE of $60,565. which is a fucking steal in my opinion.

I was just about to arrange a flight when the manager calls me this afternoon and says sorry richard, we can't sell you the car... I ask him why not... I guess GM USA has a restriction on selling new cars to other country's. I'm like k wtf. He says GM monitors where each unit is registered, and they can lose their license if they sell me that car...

So after lengthy exchanges in e-mails, I call up a GM dealer here in calgary and ask for a price match. The one of crowfoot says they'll match any price, and that they are unbeatable. So they couldnt even come close... The best they did was a new 2010 Vette for 71k.

any thoughts as to what I could do? I love the car. anyone ever hear of anything like this? Even the dealership in calgary thought it was strange.

I've heard of that happening. If you have a friend down there, someone you trust - get them to buy it and sell it to you. They can't do anything about that. That's probably the only way around it.... that I can think of at least.

Register it in the States if you got US relatives.

Or just buy a shitty $20,000 property so you can have a US address.

Much better choice than the smashed up Porsche tho man... but regardless you need a summer toy.

u mad at something, bitch? I bet you cant even afford to buy a sunfire cash...

I dont need these fucking useless posts here from u guys. I wanted to know if any of you found this strange.

I dont have any relatives in the states, and I wont buy a property there, lol...

I find it really strange though that they can sell those vettes so cheap there, I mean seriously what gives? their still making money on those deals... yet canadian vettes their asking 80 - 100k, for the same fucking car... like WTF. i'm pissed about this actually. we pay more for everything here, its driving me crazy.

I think it would but I also think you would have to get a US drivers license. Just an FYI.

Butt Fuck Idaho/Montana/Washington would probably work well.

If the restriction only applies to new cars, why don't you ask the manager to get you a 'used' one?

I.e. same year and with everything you like, but with perhaps 1K km's or something. Cause technically that won't be classified as new. Save you a lot of hassle of renting a place, trying to arrange a drivers licence and still save you tons of moolah.

lol to each his own... Personally I think that thing is beautiful. I have always LOVED vette's since I was a little boy, and personally I just love the new Grand Sports. I've sent the manager two reponses since this thread...

    1. rent a house, somewhere outside Cali, so I dont have to pay the 9% cali tax...

    2. asked him to purchse the car, register it, and I would buy it from him the next day. course I'd make it worth his while.

60k for that car is a steal guys... I have guys wanting 45k for used 2005 vettes here in calgary...

someone has to register it... I never asked him about any used cars... I wouldnt be getting any drivers license there for sure.. I'm sure theres some way around this

thanks for the positive posts so far, minus a couple fucking idiots. unlike my other threads, I did actually make the offer this time, signed and everything.

wouldnt renting a house put a dent in your cost savings?

    2. is more real chance. tell dealer you put money down. they "use" car as demo then sell car to you as demo or used vehicle to you for agree price.

though point is this is much work for dealer for little profit.

can you not find a similar low miles car for cheaper?

My Dad bought his new GMC 2500 from the U.S (my uncle did the deal) GM voided the warranty for one year from the in sevice date after the truck was registered in canada. He only had one warranty issue anyway, but still saved about 15k over the canadian price for the same truck. Keep that in mind for the first year of ownership. I hope you can find a way through this, its hard to give up such a huge amount of savings over having to buy local. It will be worth the hassle, You'll love the Vette,

well all said and done I'd say you are probably looking at closer to 65-70k to get it here (including flight, hotel, gas money (if you are driving it back), gst, inspection and incidentals).

after doing a quick kijiji search it looks like the average asking of an 08/09 with less than 20,000kms is around 50.

heck I'd probably go for something like this:
