Mapquest appl for ipad is free and works just as good IMO. Plus dont have to pay $70 to update the map. To me, theres no reason to have a Garmin Nuvi anymore. What about you?

Actually really cool! Too bad he had to reroute his climate control to the glove box, but still very very cool.

Remember GPS require both signal and map data.

Mapquest much like Google Maps provide map data over cell network. While paid apps and all other single purpose GPS provide you with downloaded maps (usually less than 1GB depending on amount of data stored) and will keep running without data connection.

I think the new Google Map on Android may have caching option so it downloads data within certain range of your current position.

I find the map app on my Bberry Torch more than adequate and I always try to google map something before I leave my PC so I have a good idea in my head as to where I'm headed.

I think it'd make more sense if you asked people about the iPhone instead of the iPad.

The Navigon and Tomtom apps on the iphone go on sale often enough for $40+. I'll stick with the free built in gps on my android however.

my Iphone 3G is now just an ipod and GPS, navigon on it has replaced my garmin most definitely, just keep updating it for free, saved my ass in vancouver. no data req'd im actually very impressed with its GPS reciever efficiency, blows my SGS's GPS out of the water for sure.

+1 For Navigon, We used Navigon on our recent trip to Europe and it worked great driving around considering we had no 3g.

A great idea for travelers as it's one less thing to carry.

I trust my old Garmin nuvi 250 more than my iphone4 w/ Navigon or Tomtom for driving.

but walking around a new city I guess I'll have to rely on my iphone

My first gen iPad has been my car navi/traffic warrior. I find the fast responsive touch screen, and 10" is much better than my in dash pioneer. And often times a quick swipe gets me the info quicker than shuffling through my pioneer... My iphone4 screen is too small for me to safely use while driving in traffic...

Don't have an iPad, and don't have a glass mount GPS.

I use my built in GPS system and it rocks. On top of that to, if I feel really really lazy I can just bust out Onstar which is actually sick (if you pay for it, whynot use it right?).

Example of my last Onstar call:

Onstar: "Where can I take you Mr. XXXXXX"
Me: "I'm visiting Kelowna from out of town, have a craving for McDonalds".
Onstar: "Do you have a preferred location, or just want closest one?"
    Me: "Closest please".
Onstar: "I've uploaded to your in vehicle NAV system, PS nice vehicle, have a nice day Mr. XXXXXX".

I dunno, he did a clean job of installing it, but it looks... awkward, to me.

I'd rather just have made a built in dock, that sat in front of my center console.
