Is there any sort of limit on how much cash you can deposit in your banks ATM envelopes? Obviously only so much will fit in one envelope, but other then that is there a limit on when you have to go to a clerk?

As far as I know there is no limit but common sense prevails.
I wanna hear the wheels bog out trying to suck the envelopes in!

25k is the max deposit at atm. Assuming you can fit 25k in an envelope, I tried to deposit a 26k cheque once and it wouldn't allow it.

I deposited a cheque for way more then that with no issues. I bank with TD if that matters?
ah, ok. I tried both cibc and bmo personal accounts, neither would accept over 25k. Business account may have different limits.Originally posted by 89coupe

Mine is not a business account, just an Infinity Chequing Account with TD.Originally posted by JudasJimmy

Never heard of limits before on cheque deposits. They put a hold on it until funds are cleared, so theres no reason to limit it.
Exceptions being foreign currency accounts.

Cash Im talking, which is size restricted obviously within an envelope, But otherwise it seems like it isn't an issue..
Mine at TD is $500,00 a day. Would be nice to have to worry about that limit.
They hold a large percentage of the check for anything over $25,000 for me though.

Don't they ask question when you make a deposit with a lot of cash even at the teller? I remember one time when I had to move 18k from one bank to another they asked me where the cash was from and I showed them the receipt. That was more than 10yrs ago though.
My account has no hold either, but I am responsible if the cheque does not clear for some reason.Originally posted by kenny

There are deposit limits associated with the account level that you have at the bank.
For example - if your limit class at BMO is a 01 - Standard/Mastercard - then your deposit limit should be $25,000.
Though take account - your limit class is not the same as your chequing account.
For example - 89coupe: Infinity Chequing Account with TD
The reason you are able to deposit with no problems is not because you have that chequings account, its because you have a low risk rating in the bank systen,
In terms of holds, how must is held at the atm is dependent on what your limit class is. If you are a standard, up to 1000 dollars of the amount deposited is not held.
In terms of cash - a bank has to process a large cash transaction form when you deposit 10K + in cash within one day. (can be a single trasaction or multiple). It's nothing wrong, it's just policies just incase you are depositing "illegal" money.
Hope that helps!
As ^ said, there are limits. You won't be able to deposit a million dollar cheque into the atm. Limit depends on the card that you get. Every bank has different limit class for different clients.
Spread it over a few envelopes? hahaOriginally posted by Supa Dexta

If it's at the teller, they might ask where you got the cash from. But really depends how much you are depositing. Could always say you sold a car and requested cash from the buyer lol

Shit, there's only 49 users here, I doubt we'll even break 100
I deposited a $450k check a few months ago with no probs. If there are limits, it must be the ATM's display limit. I'm going to see if I can punch in a million next time I go to the bank.Originally posted by Team_Mclaren

Just a normal account here. Nothing special.

One reason I'm switching my bank is the retarded limits
at ATB through the ATM they will only release 500 at the teller 1000 anything after that is a hold on the funds even though I have the money in the account to cover everything with ease, they won't change this either because I do not have enough products with them... so dumb

ATB is too busy throwing money at SAP for their new banking system.Originally posted by adam c

What you're allowed to deposit in cash is however much an envelope will fit, but if you jam it so full it won't even close properly then you're asking for trouble yourself. You have to realize it's just a box on the other side of the machine with a bunch of other envelopes. Also, ATMs do not differentiate between cash and cheque. So if your cash deposit at the machine is held for 5 or more business days, don't bitch.
In regards to how much you're allowed to deposit in dollar amount. AFAIK there are no limits as to how much unless certain branches' ATM's have pre-set limits for security reasons, none of which should have anything to do with your account personally.
How much of the money you'll have access to immediately is another matter, the "release limit" is based on your initial credit score when the account is opened and reassessed as per your request or if the relationship you have with your bank deepens (ie. more products).
Me and tobslau should have most questions covered
