Default Input request: Moving to Houston - $70k - need 2 cars

I'm moving to Houston this summer for 2 years (min). The company I work for is starting a 2nd office there, and I'm helping to kick it off.

I'm pretty set on what my 'fun' car will be, but I'm open to ideas for a daily driver. Total car budget is about $70k. I don't have kids, and don't really care about fuel economy.

    Fun car:
    - 2008+ Z06 (Jetstream blue, low miles)

    Daily driver:
    - 20## 4 door Jeep Wrangler (put mtb on back, throw shit in)
    - VW R32 Golf
    - Nissan Murano
    *added* - Audi A3 (S line)

I'm leaning towards the Jeep, especially if I put a small lift and tires for a nice stance, but I'm open to input for vehicles I'm not thinking of.

I do like that car, but the daily driver budget is around $20k, if I want to get the Z06 (~$50).

What do you like is the first question. What are you planning on doing on weekends? I would almost buy a jeep. I have a pet fantasy to live in Hawaii and drive a jeep around for a year.

Jeep, they're cheap down there and easy to mod. As for a fun car why not euro

Jeep or better IMO a truck, you'll need it as Houston is about the worst city in Texas in my experience. Whatever vehicle you get it needs to be comfortable for getting out of the city.

They're ok, but I don't want to mile up my nice car by daily driving.

Around Calgary I mountain bike, snowmobile (BC). A jeep would be useful if I get a dirtbike and small trailer.

I've never owned a Euro car, but 2 things turn me off: Performance bang for the buck is better with a vette , and I have the impression that maintenance fees are high on Euro cars.

Yea, I was thinking of a 4 door PU, but I need some inspiration by seeing one with as much character as a 4 door lifted jeep has ($20k budget).

From what I heard about Houston, it gets HOT and depending where you live, commuting to work can be very LONG.

For a daily driver, I'd consider something that has a nice and comfy interior, since you may spend a lot of time in the car....oh and, maybe some strong A/C

It does stay very hot for the summer, so make sure the a/c is strong. Many people though will drive to big bus-stops kind of like brt here and they have coaches to take people into downtown. I think both downtowns have those. But if you can commute with someone else the hov lanes are usually pretty quick in rush hour. Jeep would not be a bad idea though for hauling stuff around, same with those hatches.

I may have missed this - why aren't you bringing your current cars down there?

Houston roads are so much fun to drive (outside of rush hour).

IMO you can use the "fun" car as a DD in Houston. There isn't really a winter down there and the highways/roads in and out of the city are all good enough to drive on in a corvette.

I don't really know anyone down there that has a dedicated DD/summer car thing going on.

I thought sometimes people get a dd in addition to a fun (nice) car, so you don't care as much about the doors and dings from everyday life.
