Warning: Shady Business Practice

Hey all. I am posting here to warn you of some shady business practice i have been victim to.
I am a Mobile detailer that does a small amount of auto interior detailing on the side in my spare time to earn extra money for my family. I do 1-2 cars per month, not a lot, just when time permits.

This story starts from last week when i had a customer contact me through e-mail inquiring about a detail. He straight up asked for my address, i replied to him ([email protected]) and explained that i am fully mobile and can come to him providing he has a driveway or garage. He replied and said he has no garage and asked for my address again. I replied as which comunity i live and if that was convenient for him then let me know. Again, he demanded my address without any other words. I found this fishy so i pushed back a little but after some more back and fourth, i caved and sent him my address. He never replied after that. Hmmmm. fast forward 3 days to Friday (yesterday), a bylaw officer is pounding down my door responding to a complaint of a business operating out of my home. I was baffled that any of my neighbors complained and explained that i am mobile and don't typically serve customers at my home (i am not pumping cars in and out of my garage affecting the neighborhood) and that i go to the customer location.
The Bylaw guy was pretty cool about it seeing that obviously nothing was going on. He would not give the details of the complaint but did explain that it was not a neighbor that complained and that it was a Local business!!!! WTF. He said i may even know this person. The officer wrote me a warning because i am operating without the proper permit and was on his way.

Immediately i remembered my correspondence with [email protected]. After some quick googling, i linked the e-mail account to a local Detailing business (gotcha!). What a dick faced move. I will not state the business name here as my evidence is purely circumstantial, but also very convincing, i cant' prove it was him.

I am posting this as a warning to all you "on the side" detailers on this forum (i know there is a few of you). If hawak.night@gmail contacts you DO NOT reply to him, blow him off, he just wants to shut you down. I can't believe someone would spend his time to do this, maybe if he spent more time growing his business and working with the community then he would be better off.

Usually someone doesent get singled out unless there is some past history between the two parties.

It is impossible to know 100% that this is what happened, though the evidence looks pretty obvious.

Yah dude, i don't think that is him. His first name is the same but that's it. How could this guy even detail a car? Plus no mention of the business in question on that website

I have had no prior contact with this guy nor even heard of RCS car parlor before this all happened yesterday.

Yes from his side of things, he has made the investment to run a business out of a shop an put up with all of the expenses so i can kind of understand that it is annoying to have guys like me around that can somewhat under cut the business and make a steeper profit margin. I'm pretty sure that is all there is to it from his point of view. Having said that my prices are very much in line with the industry and its not like i charge something ridiculously low for a detail like some other on the side guys. He probably just saw my add and thought to himself that he didn't like it.

It is all on me though, I'm not licensed end of story. The thing is though, if i can't take on a job for what ever reason then i will recommend a shop that is close to the customer to them. After this i certainly wont recommend these guys.
