Default Monitored Home Security With No Home Phone

Anyone know of a security company in Calgary that does this? I want to get rid of my home phone but I also want a monitored home security system. Is this possible?

Seems like quite a few security places are able to provide monitored systems without a phone line - we are installing ours with Triton Security next week, no home phone

We had APX install ours recently. It works over cell towers. They are now called Vivent I believe. Nice system.

I have a United Alarm running over my Shaw Phone. when I moved into this place a couple years ago, they said the "regular" VOIP wasn't possible.
I'm no expert, but it seems to work.

You do NOT want to run an alarm system over VoIP...

An alarm system SHOULD work over Shaw's system just because shaw uses uncompressed voice codecs and doesn't actually use the same type of technology and codecs that regular VoIP uses...

So either keep a real landline, switch to shaw, or get an alarm system that works over wireless...

(Using an alarm system over VoIP is just like trying to fax over VoIP, or use a modem over VoIP. It just doesn't work.)

Yes, it can be easily done, and is preferred in most cases to alleviate the risk of a burger cutting the phone lines to disarm the security system.

It is simply an added module in the new system and is connected basically via a cellphone connection.

I know a manager for a security company that can get you deal on a system. I think I'll be getting one this summer too.

    PM me if interested.

Check out www.alarm.com. My friend is an ADT independent agent and he set up his system where he can monitor and control by iphone. Also he will receive notifications on my cell phone.

ADT has this that they will soon roll out. www.adtpulse.com

There is an app in the Apple store.

Almost all major alarm systems have cellular modules.

Hey did your buddy say when ADT pulse was going to be out? I have been waiting for it for awhile now. Great looking system. I contacted ADT a few months back and could not get an answer to when it would be available here. Thanks

I've seen a demo from a Calgary based company called Cohen Media and they install some sort of cameras which you can view over your cell phone. I think they have some sort of system that can call you if somebody rings the door bell too!

I haven't, I just use them as a reference for model numbers and I buy new from Ebay instead. They are Canadian though, it's just that Ebay is 2/3 of the price. I'm going to be picking up some XPS3 switches from an Ebay store this week if you want to bundle to save on shipping. I need to do my CFL lights and the WS12A switches I have won't work for them.

I set up my fireplace on X10 last week, I made a thread here......nobody replied in it.

Well I think I might have to do some more research before I buy. Ebay seems to be a better route though with the simon xt systems being about $50 less with more items and nearly the same shipping cost.
