I just had a Shaw tech out to my place today, I too (not a student) am showing WARP as my package on the Shaw test website:

    http://speedtest.shaw.ca/

The tech (good guy really) said my router was incorrect and wanted to install a different one. He made a phone call and found out I am actually only paying for Extreme and not WARP. Yet the customer service rep at Shaw said I was not getting the speeds I should be and so the onsite tech came out. Turns out the customer service rep was wrong as I am not paying for WARP, he must not have checked my account the idiot and wasted my time and a service call.

My current specs at SHAW Extreme:

Ping 29, Download can be 9-21 depending on the test date and time, Upload about 1.85 on average.

Shaw wants $97 a month for WARP, I am looking into OPTIK at this point as the TV package is better and the internet will be about the same.

Until June... when Shaw Internet speeds (Internet Lite aside) will be 50 Mbps and up.

So am I right in thinking I should hold off on dumping Shaw until June and see if this really does happen in my area?

The initial packages are available immediately in all areas in June.

The second phase of increases will be rolled out of the next year or so.

    Hold off.

I too was going to jump ship to Optik, until I found out about the speed increases.

    Hi Muji,
As Sputnik said, the Broadband packages will be available in all areas in early June. Stay tuned - we should be releasing more information on our final packages shortly.

Hey anarchy, any tips on this question?

    Hey Smurf,
Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

It's hard to say as we have many promotions and I'm not in the Sales department. If you fire me your contact info in PM, I'll have one of my guys call you back and walk you through your options.

I'm pretty stoked. I wonder if they will give out new modems to support the new speeds? I'm on the blue one right now for my extreme.

That timeline is incorrect. I'll definitely post once the new packages have been launched, but it shouldn't take two weeks.

A Docsis 3.0 modem is needed for the new Broadband packages (50Mbps+).

Yeah im here to inject a bit of reality vs shaw rep's shady bs. I'm in downtown. I get 20 down and 0.2 up. No typo. This is even slower than before their amazing upgrades. So either they have exactly 1 node for all of downtown, or they've vastly oversold their service.

I want off this piece of shit network, could get faster rates using a wind unlimited data plan at this point. Options? Telus?

You need to get a tech out to your place first, once he has made certain you are getting what you are paying for all should be well. It took four techs at my old place before a seasoned vet was able to find the real issues. The guys that originally installed the system are not who you will see, it will be trouble shooters, guys who deal with this all day long. Give it a shot and check over their work, they cannot leave until you are made right.

I live downtown, and get above my maximum advertised speeds often times. My guess is it's an isolated issue - call Shaw and get a tech out. Couldn't be happier with Shaw's network, especially when they announced the new 100Mb stuff for dirt cheap.

It's up to 25 down and 2.5 up. Meaning maxing out at that. That's why I pay up to 80 dollars on the bill.

But it's also no secret shaw oversells. If you are in an area with a lot of users, it will absolutely be slow in the evening and weekends.

As you've probably seen on some of the other forums, our new packages are indeed launching tomorrow.

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up for those that are interested.

Do we call Shaw and ask for what package?

Yes that's right. The existing packages (i.e. Lite, High Speed, Extreme) will have increased included data as of tomorrow and we'll be launching Phase 1 of our packages (i.e. Broadband 50, 100, Unlimited 100).

To get the new Broadband packages you'll need to be in a Docsis 3.0 ready area.
