Default What to ride and which way to go?

I wanna ride to work, any insight on routes from the Grey Eagle Casino to the UofC? I'm thinking this way would probably be best?

Also, my choices right now are a 2007 Norco Six Two (40lb full suspension) or a broken-down Trek 400 (1992, steel) that's really not worth fixing... What bike should I get? I'd love a proper roadie but I'm not sure it would stand up to the rigors of commuting on our pathetic roads and paths and I think there's even a piece of singletrack on my way Would it get too beat up, beyond just truing up the wheels until eventual replacement? What should I look for in a "commuter" bike? I'd also love a nice mtbike to carve up some singletracks, could I just get something that I could swap wheels for road riding? I've been out of the bike game for a while... I'm thinking I should just head down to the bike shop, pick their brains then go bargain hunting on pinkbike...

Well cyclocross has been around since the 70's so they're nothing new, but a cyclocross bike would be a good call.

And what makes you think that a dece road bike wouldn't be able to 'hold up' to your commute?
Commuting on a road bike puts just as much stress on it as if you were to ride it out to Bragg Creek (maybe just more brake pad wear)

Get a road bike, or anything stiff framed.

... And take 37th down to the park, then go up the hill be Foothills Hospital, and you're at the U
