So far, according to the Municipal Government Act, you need 10% of a municipality's population to sign for a change to be made. 100,000 signatures would be kind of ridiculous. Trying to find someone with petition experience to get a realistic number. Been transferred a million times around the City.
Cool. I would sign. You may be able to get 100,000 if it was promoted with environmental consequences of the chemicals. You still see the white stuff in the water on the streets like soap residue when it rains as it seems to stick around almost all year.

I would sign, and my wife would sign. Sadly I know quite a few people who wouldn't because

    A) They lease vehicles, so don't give a shit about sheet metal longevity
    B) Think they can drive faster with this crap all over the roads.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Would more frequent car washes in the winter help mitigate the effects of this calcium chloride brine?

Essentially, our cars are becoming 'Eastern' cars now

From personal experience NO This is on a daily-driven car. It spent two months of our winter in Vancouver as well, maybe the constant wet aggravated it

Washing in winter only slightly helps when you do it after warmer slushy days, and the days following are very cold. Issue is that the calcium chloride keeps the roads wet nearly all year round, so it gets kicked up no matter how cold it gets. Washing doesn't do much.

But yeah, never really had such a rough winter on my SUVs finish like this year. There are bits of rusted metallic particles stuck to my paint all over the vehicle. I'm gonna be spending all weekend claying and cleaning the paint job. My lower radiator support looks like it's sat at the bottom of the ocean for the last 5 years. My 4Runner is a 2003 with only 78,000KMs and it's spent half it's life in Red Deer where they use no salt.

I'd say tell your Alderman, tell your friends, tell anyone who would care about this.

Calcium Chloride is some bad stuff, it will even wear down your concrete garage floor.

I find they able just to sneak this pass everyone in Calgary without a peep.

I got fed up with the corrosion over winter, so I just threw in the towel and bought a winter beater so I don't have to expose my summer ride to anything of the sort. 7 years later, the undercarriage still shines!

a link to everything you would want to know about corrosion and prevention.

I think the best way to raise awareness is contact your local Alderman and question the use of calcium chloride.
    This would be a start.

June 28th to clean my streets..... Seriously?

I'd sign. I have to re-paint four panels on my car after this year. The car was fine for 8 other winters, and this one made a mess of it.

blame it on people that are too stupid to buy decent winter tires/slow down for the conditions and then blame the city for their stupidity.

Due to the complaints of these individuals, the city had to lay down twice the amount of gravel and leave it down longer due to the late start to spring.

I think they are estimating it won't be until august that they complete cleaning.

Why even bother cleaning it up, it will snow a month after it is all done. This city and its new mayor is a joke. I hope the city's car fleet, and bridges rust to hell!

Can some of you post pics of your accelerated corrosion due to last winter??

Sure. I have some pictures of my car from just last August, and I'll get some of how it is now.

Edit; I'll have to wait until my girlfriend gets here with her camera, tried with blackberry and the quality was extremely poor.
