    Default F1 in Montreal

Heading to Montreal for the F1 race in June. We are trying to decide between doing the grandstand weekend pass or just the sunday general admission. Has anyone done either and if so what would your recommendation be? I have heard mixed reviews about both.

Also any recommendations of where to stay that close to the race and places to party would be great!

Bump because a group of friends are interested and we want in!

I played around the F1 site and I can get <$1k/person for a flight/hotel/car/weekend pass in Grandstand 33...

Flight sucks major bawls and I think I can go cheaper. I'm just unfamiliar with the city layout so I don't where's a good place to stay.

Under a G for flight, hotel and ticket for the race weekend is not bad. When I looked, I was budgeting about 1500.

You'll most likely take the underground to the track, so any where DT by a station is good. As long as you are within DT, entertainment should be close. Too lazy to walk, you can always rent a bicycle lol.

If your going to go for the Sunday General Admission make sure your one of the first people to arrive so you can get a decent view from somewhere. If you are walking in from the gates the best GA seats in my opinion would be on the north side of the hairpin. there is an elevated area that allows you to see quite a bit, but it get packed very quickly There are no arranged seats for General Admission. I had an amazing time last year and Plan to again.

Well, the hotel is near the airport so definitely not within DT. Unless we opt out of the car and go for a DT hotel... Probably a little more expensive but convenience is key.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I'm still planning it (as usual) so I'm going to await confirmation from my buddies if they're still in.

Judging by how shitting it looked when I was watching the race in Germany, there is no way in hell I'll be standing anywhere I'm really eager to go, hopefully I don't end up going by myself!

I'm curious about the late night entertainment if you know what I mean lol. With the high rollers in town during the race weekend, us regular folks might not get much service.

My experience was top notch before but that was during a slower time.

Went in 2010 got a weekend pass and great seats in the first corner (best seats IMO) but everything all in(flight, hotel, car, food, product, etc) was over 2gs. Hotel was right by the track and right downtown, amazing location especially for all the festivities downtown.

I went last year, got grandstand tickets at the exit of the hairpin. I liked paying for a seat. You don't have to fight through crowds to get a good view (and a spot to sit in the rain). Got to see a ton of overtaking.

I got a deal for a hotel across the river in Longueuil. It was close to the train station, only one stop from the track and 2 stops from DT. My buddies stayed in res at McGill and said it was a blast.

I've been 4 times for F1 and have always stayed at the McGill residence. It's cheap, includes a buffet breakfast and walking distance to the action in downtown.

Unless you are paying lots of money for a hotel, you are better off in the residence, as they hotels usually stick you in the crappy rooms and charge $400 per night.

Ended up deciding to do this. I loved watching it in Germany and is an excuse to go to Montreal which I have always wanted to do.

    Flight - $499
    Race - $527 Section 12
    Hostel 6 nights about 1.5km from race - $210

Pretty pumped albeit a pretty expensive week!

Gonna bump this up. A couple buddy's and myself are going in 2014 and I am looking to get some information. Staying at mcgll sounds like a great idea for accommodation.

Does anyone know when tickets will go on sale for 2014?

    Cheers,

Wife surprised me with tickets to the Canadian GP

    My b-day is June 11th.

Anyone else going to be there?

Trying now to book hotel and plan our in/out for the weekend. From what I understand its alot of walking that weekend (meaning dress for comfort).

Any hotel recommendations? After the race we may be going overseas (Italy). Would want to do the race, head back to hotel, get prepped for our long flight, then head to airport.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I'm going to be there. Unfortunately, my connection at a team is no longer a connection, so I don't get as much baller stuff.

I'm in Grandstand 12 this year.

    Bring lots of beer.

We usually bring a giant rolling cooler of beer. Feel free to send me a PM, and we'll sort you out on game day. It's also the only weekend I smoke like a chimney (when in Rome!).

I'll be going with a group of 10 or so guys as well.

What does everyone bring for coolers? I've heard cooler backpacks are the way to go...something like:

    http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/wo...3709p.html#srp

There's some dimensions on the website for acceptable cooler sizes:

What about butt pads/stadium seats, anyone going to bring these along?
