    Default Question Regarding uneven idle

So I can't get rid of this rattle, but I've got more important things to worry about at the moment.

the car runs, but the idle constantly bounces around. I read somewhere that a bad O2 sensor can cause this. Or does anyone else have any other recommendations?

Also if it is in fact the O2, will a skinny Sr20 sensor work with an S14 blacktop? I know the S14 motors run the fat sensor, but the only spare I have at the moment is a redtop skinny. Just want to narrow the problem down before I go and buy a new sensor. Thanks!

sometimes the throttle posishion sensor can cause it to hunt around if it not set right

bad maf should throw it into limp mode though.

My guess would be a loose vac line or a leak in an intake pipe?

I assume it's a boost leak since the car won't run past 3k rpm (forgot to mention that). I'm going to tear the piping off and redo everything this afternoon.

If that's not the case I'll dig deeper, thanks guys.

Check the tps. There are guides to calibrate on google. .49 volts closed and 4.5 wot.

could a leaky BOV also be the culprit? Replaced the fuel pump, filter, and went over all my lines/couplers for leaks. Everything is good but the idle is still 'hunting'

If anyone has an HKS SSQV Ver. II they want to sell, let me know.

Car won't run past 3k, that's limp mode.

    What codes do you have?

Last I drove it no, it didn't go past 3k rpm and would sputter. The ECU I've got doesn't have that little screw to check for codes, is there another way to do it?

didn't realize the car was a 92 i'm not very familiar with obd1.

make sure to check the tps sensor like everyone else has said then I guess I would look into the maf next.

There should be a teeny screw in there... If not you may need to borrow a consult data cable. Thats what that era of Nissan used.

So no screw as far as I can see. I'm thinking it's either a bad AAC IAVC (motor is S14) or possibly a bad TPS sensor.

I've replaced the Fuel pump, Fuel filter, couplers, vacuum lines and tightened up everything. Still runs like shit

EDIT: I've considered the O2 sensor as well? I have a fatty in there but the only spare I have is a skinny redtop sensor. I'll try that and see if it makes it better.

If not I may take it into Nissan (expensive! ) to get it diagnosed and probably get an alignment.

Sounds like maf, spray some electrical parts cleaner in there and see what happens

Alright things seem to be looking better I guess.

The car drives, boosts and seems to go well. Only problem I have now is the car will 'hesitate' somewhere between 1800-2500 rpm. The car will bounce around like crazy and will sometimes stall out when I come to a stop. Going through playground zones is the worst, but once the turbo starts to go the hesitation doesn't seem to be there.

Vac lines seem good, couplers were replaced. I do have a ding in the intercooler, I'll post a pic as it may be leaking?

Spark plugs are Iridium BKR7EIX. Slightly blackened.

MAF is a 22680-69F01 (s14 kouki). Maf stalls out when I unplug it, tried cleaning it. The car still does the samething.

I was going to take it up to Evan and Tanner, but I just don't have the time

Stock pump and filter were replaced with a Wally 225 and a Z32 fuel filter.

How many psi you running albert? Stock T28?
You may be running too cold a plug, go for the BKR6 plugs and try that. Just get the V powers so you dont spend more on platniums.

stock psi, I turned the boost controller off until I get everything sorted out.

V Power BKR6E? same gap? I'll go pick some up today.

Is your idle still bouncing all over the place?

1.1mm is stock gap which is fine, when you start turning it up to 14-15psi knock the gap down to .8mm.

idle bounces and the car stalls every now and then when I come to a stop.

Is 10psi okay on 1.1mm as well?

New plugs installed. Car still bounces but it's not as bad as it was with the 7's.

Should I try a smaller gap? They're currently at .030

Tried shortening the gap to .028 but still the samething. Bad coilpack maybe?

Could be a bad coilpack, bad engine ground, improper timing settings, did you check your TPS, check for boost leaks. Do you have a big FMIC? If you do, that could be your reason for stalling at lights, or after you rev. The bigger fmic affects the velocity of the air thru the system, and it takes to long to pressure down, so it messes with the stock tune/maf voltage curve. That could be part of it maybe? Tuff to say without seeing the car.
