When hockey returned to Colorado, Minnesota and Atlanta, they created their own identities.

I don't know... I'm of the opinion that they should create a different identity instead of attaching themselves to the old Jets (whose team is still in the NHL).

The Colorado Rockies really had no support to speak off, its not like the people of Denver were celebrating that much and chanting Go Rockies Go in the center of town when the NHL returned. They were a terrible team with no real history. I would venture to say that no one could name any stars that came from that franchise.

Minnesota and Atlanta had no choice. Their team names were still being used in the league.

Tough to call yourself the Stars or Flames when those teams still have the name, and it would look stupid to have your hockey team the same name as your baseball team (Colorado).

I'm sure if you ask Browns fans in Cleveland if they should have changed the name, they'll give you a resounding no and Winnipeg will be the same way. Growing up in Winnipeg, I was going to be extremely disappointed if it wasn't Jets. Can't wait to get a look at the jersey, will probably be buying one.

Good point about Cleveland Browns. Wasn't that because it was under a special legal circumstance that they get to keep the name or something?

The owner was intent on moving the team to Baltimore, and the league let him. It wasn't Cleveland's failure as a market. As a result, the NFL had him leave the history of the franchise and the name in Cleveland. Smart move. It's too bad they didn't do the same thing with Winnipeg, but I suppose at the time nobody thought a team would come back.

They are going to be a good team. Can't wait for re-alignment after next season. The old Jets were a tough team back in the day.

As mentioned it seems pretty Canadian Armed Forces, and not so much Hockey - almost too modern? Does that make sense to anyone?
