Yeah but it cost an extra 150 million dollars to do it that way, so makes perfect sense for Trudeau.

That's.... Actually waaaay more reasonable of a cost addition then I expected.

Sad state of affairs when the expectation for liberals is billion, not million dollar boondoggles

The competition itself cost close to a $1B, not sure what the $150m is coming from. Either way we wasted years and more hundreds of millions to replace the F-35 with the F-35. Idiots.

If the Liberals weren't such wet noodles they would have negotiated something useful (e.g. Keystone XL approval) in return for this purchase.

But nope. They'll probably try to blame the Harper government per usual for not spending enough on renewing the military so they can then blame the incoming budget deficits on that while military expenditures have populist support.

Those fuckers couldn't plan their way out of a wet paper bag.

No we bought them... And they sit getting scavenged for parts.

Funny thing - we didn't check that they were COMPATIBLE with our equipment, they have all different radar, electronics, ecm etc - so basically we bought a fully different model / model year parts car with little that crosses over.

I imagine the true cost is MUCH more. I just recall the penalty cost for pulling out of JSF commitments was 150mil. Now we also have new procurement costs, inflation, wasted cost on more F-18's, etc.

$2 billion total not annual. Can't even afford double meat or 91 octane at that rate.

Canada will never build our own fighter, so it’s as good as you’ll get.

F-35B bites the dust. Didn't the USA figure out how to get rid of that bounce with the moon lander 50 years ago?

Hey now we went from buying 65 jets for 44B cost across their lifetime to buying 88 for 70B instead. Not only did we delay the whole purchase we ended up buying more at a higher cost per jet too.

The cost per plane was always ~$85m USD, that never changed.

Rinse & repeat. Chrétien did this with the helicopters that were supposed to replace the Sea King like 30 years ago.

And those were "good Liberals". This new batch is not better.
