Police took an adult man into custody last night after a crash that killed one person and critically injured another. Just before midnight on Sunday, a Honda CRV with 5 occupants was speeding southbound on Stoney Trail. The driver attempted to exit onto McKnight Boulevard but the small SUV left the road, rolled several times and ended up about 120 metres off the road. Two of the passengers were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle. Both were taken to hospital where one person died from their injuries and the other is in critical, life-threatening condition. The two remaining passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver was uninjured and taken into custody by police at the scene. Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash and charges are now pending against the driver. The intersection at Stoney Trail and McKnight Boulevard was closed for several hours to allow for the Traffic Section to complete its investigation. The road has since been re-opened.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

If you're going to post shitty news articles, can you at least post them in the correct section? Rarely do your links have anything to do with cars other than the fact they involve a car.

From what I heard the guy driving was the brother of one of the guys that passed away.

IMO its just as dumb to get into a vehicle with a drunk driver as it is to drive drunk. What do people think happens when the driver is drunk?

That's what I was thinking too. I think it was a vehicle full of collective stupidity that lead to this. At least they didn't take anyone else out.

I shared the story with my teen kids as a friendly reminder of what can happen.

RIP to the victims and their families.

Nobody ever seems to take these reminders into account... I always see swerving vehicles when I go driving in the late am on weekends.

    Yeah 16 year old girl.

Guillermo and Kloubek, suprisingly shitty comments from you. Don't understand how she could have asked for it. Mistake? yes. But shes still just a kid, definitely not something worth dying over. When I was 16 I did some stupid stuff too

I can't imagine what her parents must be going through.

Look - as I said, RIP for sure. But you can't tell me that everyone in that vehicle didn't know what they were doing. Even at 16, she (and everyone else) knew it was a bad idea. They assessed the risks, and went ahead and did it anyway. And now that bad decision cost two people their lives and leaves the remainder with very painful memories.

I'm not saying they were horrible people and their deaths should not be mourned. I'm not saying this isn't a tragic situation. I'm just saying that they brought it on themselves - knowing what they did was extremely dangerous.

I too did some stupid stuff when I was younger - and luckily I learned from my mistakes before I caused myself or anyone else our lives. I only wish these people were equally as lucky.

People don't realize that stupid kills.

Kids OD'ing on drugs, driving drunk, getting the car with a wasted driver. All easily avoidable things that have real consequences.

There are a ton of other options available, there is zero reason to get behind the wheel drunk or in the same car. My parents always told up they would come pick us up or pay for the cab if we didn't have a safe way home or if we had something to drink at a party. I told my sister that I'd come get her any time, anywhere so long as she didn't get in the same car with someone who has been drinking.

You didn't say RIP, regardless all I'm saying is who know what kind of shape she was in. For all you know she was drunk out of her mind, puking on everything 1/2 passed out. I know that there's been a few times I've come home when I was in university so screwed up I couldnt remember a thing. Fortunately I was lucky enough to have friends that put me in a cab instead of driving loaded.

16 year olds - regardless of what society may say - are completely incapable of making rational decisions even sober -never mind completely fucked up.

The driver - on the other hand - deserves to sit in jail.

You're right. My bad... I think I nixxed my original post in favour of the one I put up, and forgot to re-include the RIP.

    So... seriously... RIP.

And yeah, I know what you're saying... even hammered adults have a difficult time thinking rationally. But then, it was their own decision to put themselves in such an incapacitated state. No matter how you look at it, it simply comes down to people making mistakes, and their own fault. But as I said, that doesn't make it any less of a tragedy.
