Now, if you know an MRI tech, you can get txt'd when there is an opening. Everyone does this, not just politicians.

If you don't want queue jumpers, you'd make the system even more inefficient. Force the techs to do nothing if someone missed an appointment haha. It's not like they're pushing ppl out of line for preferential treatment.
I know a member of my family asked to be placed on a call list in case someone missed an appointment or cancelled at the last moment. A two month wait was reduced to less than a week (on a one hour notice) by simply asking for a call when the appointment was made for months later. Filling these time slots makes sense.

OP, this goes on all over Canada - not just in AB.

Its not what you know, its who you know that gets you ahead.

Always has been the case with any culture across time and space.

That's why we need a second tier fucking health care system.

Rich people are going to get ahead regardless, either through their relationships with other rich people, eventually leading to an MLA or a doctor, or by pumping money back into our economy.

    Your choice canada.

This is the most retarded thing I've ever seen. Exactly how do you extrapolate your statement as a result of reading that article?

The issue is that universal health care is a bulky, bloated system. There are policies and procedures in place to keep the system running, but a little speck on the radar like an MRI opening isn't going to get feather's ruffled enough for someone to go out of their way, off of their beaten path set out by a union in order to fill such vacancies. Doing nothing is oftentimes more efficient than doing something.

That being said, if a person directly contacts those that are responsible for a parcular issue at hand, you see these vacancies being filled as they've gone directly to the source, rather than having their issue being diluted by passing through the systematic procedures. You see this work with many other situations than healthcare, too.

The higher ups are fortunate enough that they can have access to direct contact information of the higher ups (doctors or what have you) as they can enter the system without the nonsense. Sounds more like networking than privilege to me.

I'll add, from firsthand experience with cancer, when you NEED help, you get it, and you get it well. From CT to diagnosis to surgery in a few hours, for an average joe I was treated pretty well.
