Default how to get the best discount on a rental car?

i'm going to be renting a car for a Thursday-Sunday/Monday, preferably from enterprise. but i'm a cheap ass and want to get the best deal I can. Does anyone have experience with getting the best deal?

i have an Entertainment book that has coupons for:
    1) 10% off
    2) free upgrade

but I also heard that you can use priceline and other sites to get discounts, has anyone used those and know how they compare to the coupons listed above?

In my experience, book online with something like Expedia and it's not hard to get a car for ~12-15/day. Always rent the cheapest car then ask for an upgrade in person. Often times you will get it.

Priceline has been good to me. When booking in Vegas I got a compact for less than $10/day, and a fullsize in Hawaii for $18 a day. Make sure your credit card includes insurance.

yea the problem is we're going to a music festival 7 hours north, and could have up to 4 people in the car + gear, so i don't really want to request a suzuki swift. with my luck, i'd end up with that LOL

Curious about this, I have tried this before. But only on a couple occasions, and both times they had upgrades but I had to pay =(

How'd you get it to work? I understand when they have no economy cars (most popular) and they sometimes offer you a free upgrade to get you out asap.

I just tried priceline and the lowest it's giving me is $45/day, which is more than the Enterprise website!

    am I doing something wrong?

Try Alamo Rent-A-Car. They usually have weekend rates which kicks in Thursday @ noon until Sunday evening. Sometimes you can find compacts for under $20/day if you're only needing it for the weekend.

They're owned by Enterprise, so their fleet will be pretty much the same.

I looked on priceline where you name your own price, and the "retail" prices they list are just about double what they are on the enterprise website. Plus, priceline adds in $50 in taxes and fees. i did a bid of $15/day on a full size, which would've come to about $112 with the extra fees. i ended up just booking directly by calling, i got $121 after my coupon. so, priceline didnt seem to work very well for me here. didn't try expedia though.

Alamo is in bed with National, not Enterprise.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

It's never guaranteed, but if there are larger cars sitting around it's usually easy to get them. The difference in price online, every time I've looked, from a compact to a regular sedan is $2-3/day so you just pay that and you are good to go even if they don't give it to you for free.

When I was in San Diego, I booked a compact, and got a corvette for $15/day extra haha. To book the corvette normally it's over $1000/week.

If you don't get a free upgrade, it's usually like $2-3/day extra so that is basically nothing. If you want a guaranteed sedan, just book online and pay the tiny premium for a larger car.

Car rental prices have CRAZY amounts of leeway, the lady just went and asked her boss and the corvette instantly went down from like $100/day extra to $15/day like it was nothing.

That happened to me only once where I got a Mustang GT Convertible. The upgrade may be free, the gas isn't. Driving a V8 in Cali sun is great and all but idling in traffic is like watching your money burn.

pretty much everyone offers unlimited mileage, but for YOU, you are looking at a $20-$25 underage fee per day

Last few times I rented in Calgary, they ask why if I leave province or not. Anyone knows why? Liability insurance issue?

apparently if you leave the province without telling them before hand, it voids the contract as you don't get unlimited KMs with the rental if you leave the province. This is what enterprise told me when I rented a car to goto BC.

Do they ask if you plan on carrying radioactive material and explosives? My insurance asked me that for some reason.
