I wear earplugs (They were like $30, not the best but decent) most of the time I go to electronic music events. You can still hear everything just fine and it's a lot easier to have a conversation.

Whats the point at concerts? I have to constantly ask people to repeat themselves because I've been to hundreds of small and big hardcore and metal shows. My ears are absolute shit and I'm 23, going to go pick up a pair of these before I ruin my ears more at Slayer.

I got some custom-moulded earplugs at Costco for just under $50 =) I think that's your best bet.
