Question Filtered Earplugs (for concerts, gigs, etc)

Does anyone know where to buy filtered/musician earplugs in Calgary?
I'm looking for decent priced ones, probably max is 50$.
I'm not looking for the custom fitted ones you get at a ear-doctor clinic/place.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, these are it.
They reduce the dB levels by about 20, so you can still enjoy the music..its just lowered enough not to damage your hearing (or get the annoying ringing at the end of the show)

I'm gonna go back to back with Markus Schulz and Ferry later this month and I think my ears are already on their tipping point.

    Thanks

I have to get molded ones this summer for work, but my boss got me a pair from home depot that look very much like the pic you posted. check there, i use mine and they reduce the noise quite a bit.
What kind of birdhouse can you build with popsicles, roofies, and a rubber mallet?

I have a couple pairs of the exact ones you are looking for, had them for maybe eight years. You can still carry on a conversation, the music still sounds good as well. Just none of that ringing in the ears for days afterwards, kind of funny hearing your friends shouting after a concert and you will be right as rain. Find them here:

    http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.html

They also come with a string (removable) and keychain container for storage.

Found a place in Saskatoon selling them, nothing in Calgary by the looks of it:

    Kinnaird Bagpipes
    923 Emmeline Terrace
    Saskatoon, SK S7J 5G7
    877-249-2939

From Home Depot, same design (better price $3.99) BUT in ugly orange, unless you are heading out to a Dutch Techno gig they will be a conversation starter. The Etymotic ones above are off-white in colour.

How are those for normal conversation with them in? Is it obvious looking?

Normal conversation is fine no issues at all, I have a friend in Victoria (silent nutter/music man) wears them on his walks throughout the city and he carries on a conversation with me with no issues. The plugs just take out the highs and deep lows so to speak, never an issue.

I too have worn them on trains in Japan and walking through loud streets, you really need to wear them to know just how much crap is out there killing your hearing. Once gone, never comes back. I was at a Hip concert in Banff a while back, no plugs on and ringing ears for weeks afterwards. Yes crap sound for sure, but I paid the price later.

Just had an idea, I can turn my Honda into a Lexus (dB wise), just buy wearing ear plugs. Might try it.

Nice. I'll have to order a set. #1 reason I don't go to concerts anymore. Does it look weird having them in, or is it hardly noticeable?

Actually, their "seach map" sucks balls, lol. If you go to "Customer Support", then "where to buy", there's a list of local retailers (London Drugs, it seems) who carry that brand. Even if they don't have that product in stock, I'm sure they can order them up.

Once you start wearing these, you notice more than a few others doing the same. Not odd looking at all (white/tone colour), they actually stick out very little.

Nice spot. Sucking balls is all the map does well. I will be going over this afternoon to London Drugs to take a look, my ten year old Etymotic headphones might need replacing.

What's the point of ear plugs for concerts ? Takes the fun out of it.

    Ask Pete Townshend.

Concerts in a proper hall, proper experienced sound crew and solid audio is fine. Take a place like Flames Central, those speakers have been blown since the Flames won a cup and not replaced or maintained. The guy running the board is the real key here, he can only do so much when the house system is crap. Turning it to "11" is seldom the cure.

    Eeek!

    Just took this hearing test:

    http://www.noiseaddicts.com/2009/03/...-hearing-test/

Cannot hear a thing starting at 14 kHz.*

Might blame my speakers or sound card:

    http://www.noiseaddicts.com/2011/06/...by-sound-card/

*just cranked up my iMac with speakers, I can hear them all. Speak louder!

Just got back from London Drugs (on Heritage/Macleod) They had them there for $20. If your looking, they were on they're own little stand, on the camera kiosk thing.

Thanks guys, looks like I'll be able to go back to back haha.

Yeah I just took the hearing test, I'm 24 and I can still hear 17 khz.

On the concert thing...like the guy said ...the speakers at Flames Central are shit and the control board guys have no idea what they're doing from my experience at Above and Beyond just recently. My ears ringed for a good day or two after that event.

The ringing is actually a precursor to tinnitus/permanent damage. Essentially an ear hang over, but unlike your liver - your hearing doesn't heal and can quickly be damaged even in one concert.

Well I don't know about you guys, but I'm a hobbyist musician (I play the guitar) and I'm getting into making my own electronic dance music as well. Not really thrilled to lose my hearing
