Default Birthday Gifts for wife or gf

Any ideas kicking around on good gift for a significant lady friend..

Looking for some ideas as I've been with said lady friend for 5 years, so the easy/typical ideas have all been used up.

Which is it? Wife or Girlfriend? Different gifts are appropriate for each. Though, in some cases, you can buy them the same things, which makes it a bit easier to keep straight on who got what.

    Heli-tour the glacier fields?
Weekend at a luxury hotel in BC (or Montana)? (if you hike, there's a luxury hike-in resort that's apparently really nice)
Weekend at a downtown hotel, and do all the "touristy" stuff neither of you have probably done for a decade? (ie calgary tower, glenbow museum, etc.)

Honestly, I would try to do some activities that you have never done before, or something you haven't done in many years.

EG: Opera, Shakespeare in the park, cavolina (or whatever it is). Maybe a trip together if the pocket book allows for it. Maybe check out a festival if there is anything going on these days.

what really matters is if you know something that would capture your "friend" personally, on a deeper level. Like, finding something that she used to have as a kid, or something that reminds her of the best times of her life. It shows that you listen, and care!

Or I could be way out to lunch...

    I tried.

Yeah, do something you've never done before. Skydiving, or paragliding. My wife bought us fly fishing lessons one year, and it was fun, since neither of us had done that before.

Weekend at a music festival w/hotel?
    heli hiking?

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?
