Default Just saw a funnel cloud over Airdrie

My kid called us to the window to see a funnel cloud over Airdrie. Didn't believe him at first but sure enough, it was a genuine funnel cloud! It dissipated fairly quickly and I wasn't able to get a pic. I checked on the weather page and sure enough it said there are funnel clouds over Airdrie...

I was wondering if anyone saw it and maybe got a pic?

actually was lucky enough to see one form near the university area.

From what I could tell it had a very strong circular updraft and could clearly see the tip rotating.

Suprised it took so long for this to be posted. Facebook was blowing up with posts about a tornado/funnel cloud in the Aspen and West Springs area.

Anybody know if Airdrie has a siren for this sort of thing? not a very big town so could be heard pretty much anywhere there I'm sure.

just saw a funnel cloud over our unit... mine and redlynes...i reside in aspen... damage.. entire overhang panels are ripped out and insulation. someones garage door down the neighbourhood is apparently ripped in half.(havent checked it out) a car got moved 10 feet over a curb. the stop signs and yield signs are all ripped in ahlf. my 100lb bbq was flipped upside down. my patio furniture was about 200m from my house. windows got ripped outta their units from an apartment across the street of ours. sirens have been going off for about 45 minutes around my neighbourhood now...fml
You can technically get a ticket for each window that's illegally tinted. So as above, if you're being an ass to the officer (or if he's just an ass to begin with), he can give you two. (or three tickets if you're dumb enough to tint the windshield of your BMW... but if you own a BMW you can't be stupid right?)

In 26 years, Calgary has never been this big and I do remember funnel clouds touching down in springbank which could now almost be considered aspen.

In the past 40 years, the city of St. Louis and the surrounding suburbs of St. Louis County have been hit 22 times, although none of them were in the tiny skyscraper heart of the city. There are three possible reasons for that. First, the central city may produce a "heat island" in which turbulent rising air disrupts the formation of small tornadoes(keep in mind that most tornadoes are small). The second possibility is that the "roughness" created by the skyscrapers causes turbulence that disrupts the formation of small tornadoes. The third, is, of course, the idea that tornadoes are rare, and the central city is very small. So it is a matter of coincidence. Professor Fujita of the University of Chicago suggested that the "heat island" effect takes hold for small tornadoes when a city reaches a population of about 1,000,000. There seems to be a lack of small tornadoes in the central cities of Chicago, Tokyo, and London. These are the only three cities that have been carefully studied over a long time.
Could be a reason but nothing really proven.
