    Default Golf Simulator

Does anyone have any experience using any reliable golf simulator's? I'm thinking of building a golf simulator for the basement for those cold winter days.

I'm leaning towards the P3ProSwing. Anyone have any experience playing on it?

I have the optishot. After reading reviews on the ottawa golf forum (great info for home simulators) I decided on it over the p3proswing. Just had it over a month and really pleasantly surprised by it. Got great info about flaws in my swing already.

Is it very accurate? Do you need to tape your clubs for good results?

There was a review on the Optishot on mygolfspy.com. It didn't get the best comments regarding accuracy (real life distance-wise) but it was consistent from club to club. It also appears that they have good service if you get a bad unit (the one originally test got a pretty bad review but the replacement seems to work properly.)

I do not need to tape my clubs. Accuracy to real life, the shorter the club. it seems to be consistently shorter than real life distances. There are settings to adjust distance and it is consistent from swing to swing.

Hmm, thanks for the feedback. I'll have to read more on the Optishot (Dancin' Dogg). Many of the reviews I've read were old and were not positive for Optishot.

The thing I liked about P3 was that it had more sensors and more loaded courses. I also read the Optishot did not punish mishits enough, like in real life. I'm guessing they've fixed all their bugs now.

Here's the link that swayed me from the p3proswing

Lots of other threads as well in the Home Simulator forum. Eventually I'll upgrade to a camera based one.

Thanks thorin. Looks like I have a lot of reading to do.

That's the plan for me as well. Eventually I'd like to get a camera based simulator. But for now, something simple like Optishot or P3 will work.

I actually used a P3Pro (still have it boxed up) for quite a few years until I ran out of space to swing a club. I cannot comment on the courses (never use that feature), but all the critical data are very accurate: swing path, club face angle, angle of attack and swing speed are all spot on, and the simulated ball flight on the screen are pretty true to life for me. It was the main tool I used to correct my out-to-in swing path.
The hard rubber surface is a pain... if you usually take deep divots with your irons, you'll stop doing that very quickly, even though the surface can take the beating fine. I never taped my irons, but I taped my driver. Overall I was really happy with it as a training tool. I wish I still have space for it to help me fix my face angle.
    Hope this help!

That is what I am using my optishot for. Really seeing a difference with my irons now...still not helping my wayward driver unfortunately.
