Before I was running Shaw's student plan for ~53 bucks a month which was great.

Now that I'm graduated I've been looking for new plans.

The Telus Optik TV + Optik High speed will be 65/ month after discounts. ($41 for the first 6)

I was going to call shaw to see what they could offer but telus seems to be way better.

One question... What are the base optik HD tv channels? I tried finding a list... but I could only find the entire HD channel list.
essentials is the base tells optic tv, included channels shown here

    Thanks! I checked it out.

With the HD channels I want (Sportsnet1 HD and AMC HD), it looks like telus will actually end up being more. I already own a Shaw hd digital terminal, so that being said I will probably stick with shaw till i get my own place (living with roomies now), Then definitely switch to telus once I get a new place.

This is what I build with shaw:

Definitely going to cancel after 6 months as their usual price is probably too high.

I called Telus this morning and switched and then I received an online bill from Shaw for the Sept. 21 to Oct 31st and they are charging me full pop for the services, Telus is suppose to come on the 4th of Oct. for the install. Does anyone know if Shaw is sending me a new bill or will I have to pay them for all of October? I tried calling earlier but of course it was a 2 hour wait for the call back, and just tried again when I got home and they are closed.

I think they require a 30 day notice, so you would have to pay for the full month.

When I switche to Telus, Shaw sent me a bill for the total because you pay in advance. Shaw old me they will send me a cheque for the overpayment. I think they said ten days notice... Three weeks later I waiting for said cheque either way, it was worth switching to Telus.

Shaw requires a 30 day notice of termination. You should call them and have your services reduced to the absolute minimum, no sense in being charged for all those HD channels you are not watching.

Regarding the cheque, I called and was told three to six weeks...

I am thrilled with Telus and have not looked back.

Any idea how long it takes to get your laptop from Telus?

I was in on the Xbox360 deal, it took less than a week (might have been 4 days) for it to arrive after the Telus install. I would assume much the same with the laptop.

We were told 5- 6 weeks for the laptop, Telus said they were going to take care of the switch because we wanted to keep our phone number and to not call Shaw.

I was told 4 weeks on the laptop. Lots of different answers going around.

Man, did Shaw ever reef on Telus when I called them to disconnect. Oh, they <this>.... you'll experience <that>. Don't let them <this>. Blah blah blah. Dude... the installer is already in my house - there is little point in badmouthing Telus at this point. Maybe if I got a better rate in the first place I would have stuck around.

Well today is the second day with Telus Optik, 2 things that I'm quite disappointed about:

    - We can only get the "basic" high speed Internet so it limits how we can record or what we record on PVR. I wish they mentioned that, as they said everything should be similar to Shaw, not sure if when we can upgrade.

    - HD is only @ 720p or so I'm told, can anyone confirm?

Hopefully they can upgrade our area soon, as we really only watch HD.

When mine was installed I could only get 1 HD stream. It was barely a few, maybe just a couple weeks later, that I got fiber. Just call back every week and see. They are doing lots of upgrades, but demand is high it seems. It was worth the wait for me.

And yes, HD is only at 720p. But so was Shaw.

Good to know, over all it's okay, but would be really happy once it's upgraded. Thanks.

Yeah Optik is great. Only complaint is that the guide doesnt have the channel logos so I can never seem to find CFCN......

Also when running it through the xbox it is slow but I think that is more a MS issue than a Telus issue.
