So it was a pterodactyl they hit?
Quite a bit of damage there from a bird, but I suppose better than hitting say an engine.

Did you ever see that episode of (i think) Mythbusters where they shot a frozen chicken at an airplane at like 500mph and it did quite a bit of damage? It's not the size of an object alone, speed is a HUGE factor.

How is it already rusty if it just happened?

Do you work on the tarmac there?

What's the dark brown? I'm looking at it on a projector and not a monitor, harder to see what's what.

Maybe it's some sort of primer.

Interesting nonetheless. Must have been a pelican or something seriously big because I bet that steel is like 1/2" thick.

The radome of all radar equipped transport aircraft is made up of composite material.

A testament to the toughess of the material.

If you put 1 drop of water on exposed steel. It will be surface rusted by the time it drys.

kevlar on the A320's radome, the misc colours might be the radome's primer.

not many aircraft use steel on its fuselage, off the top off my head i only know of 1 which is a Mig-25 edit: also since it was steel it needed some balls to the wall powerplant - 40+ years old it is the fastest jet fighter in the world still (some ppl count the SR-71 but i dont see it doing any dogfighting since it would probably run into its own bullets)

Kinda reminds me of how a goose hit Fabio's nose and broke it's neck.

Damn old spice commercial, I had forgotten about that actor/model (and not the other way around)

It's all about the momentum. Even a light bird has massive momentum when something hits it going 100s of km/h.

Some of you guys need to go up in a Cessna and you'll realize just exaclty what planes are made of

It's not the size, it's how you use it?

    What, corrogated aluminum?

BTW the skin of a 747 is something like .070" thick = which is about 3 credit cards.
