    Default Coolant Flushes

As part of my service, a coolant flush is suggested. I can do this myself, but curious as to why it would cost more if I haven't done one before? I was quoted $40 more on the premise that this was the first flush. If I had done it before, the flush would have been cheaper

a coolant flush is a coolant flush is a coolant flush.
I don't think it should be any different.

LOL...they want $105 to do a coolant flush. $65 if this wasn't the first one. I'm only at 32K kms too!

Welcome to the Lexus service department. Please take a number, drop trou, and bend over and wait your turn.

I dunno... I can't imagine why they'd charge more on the first flush unless they're trying to gouge you?

Besides its coolant - no need to have the dealer do that, take it to a mr lube or somewhere else, and see how much they'll do it for. If it was a transmission flush, I'd be more choosy, but coolant is coolant, and a coolant flush is a coolant flush.

"The first flush is the cheepest"

    Maybe not.
Actually, for some reason, G.M. dealers screw you the same way.

    Default ,

I have no idea if you are getting ripped off or not, but what I suggest you do is go to Canadian Tire and buy a "Hayes Manual" for car repair. They apparently are very informative and can teach you almost anything about both repair and maintenance. I think the books are like 30 bucks, you buy them specific to your car. I'll bet by reading the manual you could learn to do the repairs yourself.

Since this coolant flush is not included in the purchase cost of your vehicle, there is absolutely no reason to take it back to the dealer's service department to have it done. Take it elsewhere.

I think that this coolant flush thing is easy cash for shops. While coolant flushes are a good thing, and that high pressure might be required to get serious sediment and calcified deposits from using plain tap water, out of your system, I take the approach that if I flush the rad myself with a red flush kit (available at Can. Tire or other parts shops) once a year, in my driveway, and use good antifreeze with compatability for aluminum, and distilled water, I will not get deposits, and spare myself that bi-yearly expense.

Cost: Good antiFreeze with a low silica particulate content - $17.00 at the Mercedes Benz dealership.
    Distilled water - about $2.00
New thermostat periodically (I forget what I paid but it was cheap)

What your paying for is the 6-$12,000.00 equipment that is used to completely drain and fill your cooling system, plus the anti corrosive chemicals to make your system last longer.Plus a complete inspection of your cooling system,it"s up to you pay now or pay later.I've been a dealer tech for 20yrs, good luck.

They do the same at any Quick-e lube for 69bux. All it is is a large tank that reverse forces coolant through the system. Anti-corrosive properties are inherent in the coolant you pour in. The only thing I would ever add to my coolant is Redline Water Wetter. YMMV

Yes, I know it's premature for a coolant flush. Just trying to figure out why they would recommend it and why a full flush so soon and not just a drain/refill. Other than trying to screw me, I had no idea why they would suggest it. But apparently the new girl screwed up...not supposed to have coolant flush yet, it was supposed to be diff fluid, haha.
