    Default Shaving Tips

This has been bugging me for awhile. It seems like no matter what, whenever I shave I cut up my neck like no ones business. All over the neck area, but specifically to the right of my adams apple. Now it does seem to do it less if I let my facial hair grow out before I shave, but this results in me looking homeless at work, and I like to be freshly shaved every morning (which I don't as of lately as I can not take being cut up like that).

I've tried different razors, shaving creams, nothing has worked.

    Any tips?

Do you go against the grain or with? I cut myself going against the grain so I just go with it.

I've been wanting to try those razors for a while.. Worried I'd cut my face up real good though.

shave after you shower or in the shower. your skin is softer and the hair cuts easier.

i like the old style razors for a real close shave but the mach 3 works just fine and takes less time. the key for me is to do it in the shower, use a good soap or cream and lather it up with a badger hair shaving brush. you can also use a coupe drops of grape seed oil on your face before you put the soap on.

Are you shaving sober? You gotta be careful.

Only trick is never to move sideways... Always moving in the direction of the handle... They call them safety razors for a reason...

Rule number one to getting a good shave: TAKE YOUR TIME

If you take an extra 5 minutes you will get a better shave with less drama.

Been using a good ol Mach 3 since I started shaving. Apply some decent pressure and move it slowly, the razor won't do all the work if you're just dragging it gently. But if you're applying pressure DO NOT move it sideways or it'll instantly cut. I shave before I shower, the stubble is stiffer and cuts better. When it's soft from a hot shower it tends to bend instead of cut and you won't get as good a shave.

Doesn't make a difference. Before or after my neck still looks like it was hacked up by Freddy. Same with shaving against or with the grain too.

Tried electric razors (good ones too), never can get a close shave. I know your supposed to give it time for your hair to adjust, but after a month I still wasn't getting a close shave. Always left patches.

I'll try buying a nice razor from the other thread though, I'll give that a shot.

The only time I can shave is right after a shower, if I do it another time during the day I get razor burn like nothing else all over my neck, doesn't matter if I prep with hot water or a hot towel. The woman got me the gilette 5 blade razor at christmas and its done a good job with reducing any razor burn I get with my normal shaving

The trick is to shave in the direction of hair growth and if you have to against the grain, and try not to cut it in the opposite direction of hair growth, this causes a higher tendency to develop ingrown hairs. Those commercials have it all wrong. If you don't shower before your shave, something I like to do is to get a face towel as hot as you can get under running water and soak your beard in it for about 3 minutes. This helps soften it up and makes it a lot less stressful on your face. This is what I've learned after years of painful shaving. -_- Oh, and a good sharp blade and shaving soap or foam works well too.

I picked up a Braun electric self cleaning razor for $200 and it's been a dream. And you wouldn't believe how close it shaves, I was amazed.
