More than 70 women, men and children marched through Prince’s Island Park Saturday afternoon waving signs and chanting “2, 4, 6, 8 stop the violence, stop the rape.”
SlutWalk YYC, based on similar marches across the world, was held in Calgary to raise awareness about rape culture and the blaming of victims, said Allison Robins, community liaison for the event.
The march follows on the heels of an earlier march in Toronto. The idea was spawned after a Toronto police officer said that women shouldn’t dress like sluts if they don’t want to be sexually assaulted.
“She was wearing a short skirt, she was drinking. There’s always a reason and the victim is often blamed for the sexual assault,” Robins said.
Slutwalk, while controversial in name, aims to draw attention to the fact that what a person is wearing does not mean she is “asking for it.”
“I should be able to walk through this park naked and no one should feel entitled to touch me without my consent,” Robins said, adding some participants wore bras and panties to drive home that point.
The marches have spread across Canada, the U.S., India, South Africa, South America and other parts of the world.

I understand that nudity should be more open and not be a invitation to rape, but lets be honest, when is the last time I female or male was picked up at a nude beach and raped. So the nudist part to me is a bunch of BS.
As for rape I am 100% against it, the problem is that a lot of whore have pretended to be raped just to get back at the guy. Which then made it worse for the women or men who actually do get raped.
I dont think walking through a park chanting that being a whore is "ok" is the right way to get the point across.
