all companies are allowed to sell you the phone outright, they just choose not to since they'd rather get commission of new customer. i picked up a 4gs on launch day at wireless wave chinook, apple line up was too long. i had to call about 5 stores but eventually someone sold me the 4s outright, just a matter of finding an employee that will sell it to u.

Only leather flip/book style cases, and some guys are using GPS sheath-style cases. I don't want to be all like "oh let me get your number" *whips out galaxy note, flips up leather cover, and use stylus to take down a number* lol. On the other hand, when it is NOT in your pocket, it is clearly the nicest device to browse/game/surf the net on aside from a tablet. I also found 1-handed typing to be hard to do on it, and I have huge hands.

Seriously though it is more powerful than any phone on the market right now, and has a STUNNING screen. The S-note features look awesome. I think if it ran ICS, and had a case option like the Otterbox Commuter series, I would be sold. It may very well have those things when it comes to North America, though, which would be great. For now though, at least for me personally, I've determined the Nexus will suit my needs better.
Mitsu, you don't have to use the stylus to take down a number, you could always just tap it in "old fashioned style." I would hold out for a Note - the external SD is a deal breaker for me. I want to have the ability to potentially load files/transfer files through that avenue rather than purely Bluetooth/WiFi Direct/USB cable...

Yeah, I know, haha. I was just exaggerating.

I don't know how many hours I've spent researching the Note. After I made a scale model of it though, and the lack of any good case, I think that is a deal breaker.

You can buy one now, actually, for $850 on Expansys.ca.

I thought about the SD thing, and as long as I have 16 or 32 GB I should be OK without one.

Haha yeah. I know someone at my work who is in the same boat as you - he also has a cardboard cutout of this "phonblet". There will be cases, it just takes time for the big manufacturers to put them out...the Otterbox for the SGS2 didn't come out immediately from what I remember - maybe a month after the North America release?

Pricing, I would wait to see. I guessimate $199 on a 3 year.

Whats up with all these big android phones... I know some of you people prefer it that way, but I like the size of the the original Samsung Galaxy S or the iPhone 2G/3GS/4/S... something that can fit in my pockets lol. I hope iPhone doesn't adopt the big phone trend

There are tons of options for small phones but something like the Galaxy Nexus or Note are borderline media centers. For someone that just surfs the net, watches youtube, movies, music and does some editing to their resume and checks their email, they can replace their computers with these devices. These phones aren’t just big for the sake of being big. They pack in way more power (twice as powerful as an Ipad2) and the big screen size is useful for the tasks you would use this power for.

Went to 5 places tonight in and around Sunridge and all told me that they arent selling it outright.

Told the guys at wireless wave that they shouldnt be doing that and they looked at me like I am an idiot. They said if bell can do it we can too.

Just got back from the Bell store, picked up the new Galaxy Nexus.

It's true, they won't sell it out-right. but you can buy it for $649 on a 30 day contract. At the end of the 30 days, cancel the new contract. Done deal.

How do you transfer files to and from the phone since it doesn't use the USB Mass Protocol.

The one by Sunridge or the one in Coventry? I have to drive to the airport today so I might make a little detour...

Looks like someone over in RFD was able to nab one at Costco.

You can give that a try. Here's a copy of their receipt:
