    Default Nexus Prime

So since we had a thread dedicated to the announcement of the iPhone 5- er, 4S, I think it's reasonable to have a thread about the announcement of the Nexus Prime (or whatever it's gonna be called) that's taking place next Tuesday.

“Something BIG is coming”. This is the message from Samsung in their latest “Unpacked” video. You can bet they’ll announce the Nexus Prime – the next “pure Android” device running Ice Cream Sandwich. The 30 seconds of teasing shows how things “go better together” and that “another perfect combination is just around the corner”. The video shows a glimpse of a phone with a curved display, just like the Nexus S, plus it looks thin… 6 days away from the official announcement on October 11th.

    More curved-screen goodness!

    Possible photo leak:

Originally posted by Android Central - The leaked photo would also seem to back up reports of the Prime shipping with a 720p (1280x720) display, apparently in a 4.6-inch chassis, according to GSMArena. As you'll see in the image, that makes for an ample DPI of 320, all but matching the iPhone 4's Retina Display, which manages 326 DPI.

    4.6" though, that is gigantic.
HD screen would be nice though as opposed to the SGS2.

I totally agree 4.6" is pushing the comfortable size limit. I went from the regular SGS 4" screen to an S2 4.3" and can say 4.3 is the perfect size for me. But 720P? Thats crazy.

That's probably the exact right size for a phone to fit in my giant monkey paws.

But I am excited to hear about Ice Cream Sandwich. It will be asked, so I'll ask it here, what are the chances the S2 will see ICS?

What are the advantages of a curved screen?

They say creates a more natural view since all parts of the screen are equidistant from you.

Mic will be closer to mouth by a few mm.

In the case of Nexus S, the thicker bottom feel better to hold in my palm.

They did release Gingerbread for Galaxy S which was released with Froyo.

But ICS is a full version jump so don't know if the upgrade process is as easy.

Is it easy upgrading between android phones? I'm still using a Nexus One and will probably upgrade to the new Nexus, but some of the apps I use aren't in the market anymore. I also don't want to lose my current progress in some games.

Just use Titanium Backup. Make sure your phone is rooted first, though.

Android will automatically download all the apps that are still on the market for you. Then like Xaroxantu Zero said use Titanium to restore the rest of the apps and all the application data so you wont lose a thing.

Because it is the flagship Android phone, if the SGSII LTE version has such great specs, just imagine what the flagship phone will have...

True, but I just want ICS. It might be because I just picked up a Nexus S, but I have a bit of time before I upgrade again. Like at least 3 months Already having a Nexus means I'll probably get the ICS update anyways when it rolls out so I'm more concerned about specs for my next upgrade.

Don't forget, that a 16:9 (720hd screen) at 4.5" would be the same width as a 5:3 4.3" screen. So at 4.6" it won't be much wider than the 4.3" phones that have been out. It will be longer/taller however.

That is crazy, I never thought about that, you're absolutely right. In fact the pictures and the leaked rumors point towards all soft buttons on the front so the phone might not be taller at all, just the display.

Any chance Google will pull an Apple troll like move?
