Hey guys
I know everyone knows the cops will be out this weekend, but though I would post this anyway:
The RCMP are warning Alberta drivers that during the Thanksgiving Day weekend they will be out monitoring drivers on the province’s highways. Operation Impact is a nationwide strategy that targets driving behaviours that endanger other people on the roads.
The operation will begin at 12:01 on October 7 and will run throughout the Thanksgiving Day weekend until October 10 at 11:59 p.m. RCMP along with Road Safety Partners will be stationed at key locations to remind drivers that good decisions, safe driving habits and obedience of traffic laws can help save lives and reduce injuries.
Police will be watching for proper use of seat belts, distracted driving, speed limits, intersections and responsible alcohol use.
Cst. Tamara Dreaddy of the Tabor/Vauxhall RCMP says “Every day our officers patrol area highways with a focus on driver behavior that poses risk for themselves and other road users. I believe our officers will see an increase in traffic volume both leading up to and during the Thanksgiving Day weekend. I trust our members presence and focus during “Operation Impact” will result in increased compliance with traffic laws thereby making our roadways safer for everyone. Motorists should be vigilant concerning their driving at all times but especially now with the recent Distracted Driving legislation coming into force and another long weekend about to begin. Attentive driving, making good driving decisions and the safe use of alcohol is everyone’s responsibility. It is hoped our efforts will lead to alert, safe, sober driving that results in everyone arriving safely at their destination”.
The RCMP is asking motorists to keep the following in mind before they head out onto Alberta roadways :
· In Alberta mandatory occupant restraint compliance is the law. Buckle seatbelts and ensure youngsters are properly restrained in the appropriate child restraint ; as per height & weight.
· Refrain from aggressive driving, speeding, following too closely or running lights or stop signs.
· September 1, 2011, saw the Distracted Driving law come into force. Obey the law, be attentive to your driving and arrive safe.
· Safe and sober driving is everyone’s responsibility. Never get behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs.

The police should be enforcing this all day, every day. I drive on Deerfoot all the time and almost everyone is breaking the speed limit, all the time. The limit should either be enforced or raised, I feel like a jackass driving 100kph in the middle lane. It is not safe to do so!
ditto, i feel guilty when i go to 110, and have some bitch tailing me as if im going too slow -___-Originally posted by Ryan Shawcross
