They can't track you if they can't see you. Just be veeeery sneaky.

Yes they do. Example if you are collecting EI and you leave the country they are aware of it you are cut of and required to pay them back.

All developed nations will monitor those entering and leaving their country and cross ref as much as needed. The government is only limited by their software in this matter, so the sky is the limit.

Once you have had issues leaving or entering Canada or other countries, they are on file until who knows when.

Some crossings have limited hours of operation, crossing into and from the USA is as simple as driving through. One assumes there is camera, air and plenty of RCMP interest in those using the crossing. I have had no issues, but then again I had nothing to hide.

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

If they scanned your passport, you bet they can track you. Unless you're being suspicious, they probably won't actively do anything about it. Any time anything that can uniquely identify you is scanned, you can be tracked. Kinda makes you wonder if fake passports still work with passport scanning in place or the scanners are just pretend.
Someday we may need to activate the halo structure off Deerfoot and destroy the North East.

I just renewed my passport today. In the new year the price of renewing and obtaining will go up due to Canada "catching up" with other countries, and chipping the passports. A few pages in will be a chip on a thicker sheet. She did not have confirmation on the cost increase. The rumour going around is the cost going from $87.00 (what I paid today) to somewhere in the 200 range. She confirmed that as a rumour. That would be pretty steep.

You will also have the option to go ten years as well as five until renewal.

Kind of on topic. Thought I would share.

yes, and if you leave on one passport you should make sure you return on the same. I have a friend with dual citizenship, he left using his US Passport, came back using his Canadian Passport.

A week later a couple CSIS agents showed up at his door asking how it was he got to the states (they of course had a record off a US Citizen leaving, but not his Canadian passport leaving, the two records weren't linked), when it was all said and done they just told him to travel with one passport in the future, they didn't care which one.
