Good stuff, planning on picking up the 70" in the next couple weeks once our basement is wrapped up....hopefully price will drop on it a bit.
Thank god TV's are starting to get big again. I've been waiting forever to replace my 71 inch DLP, my rule is my new TV always has to be equal or bigger in size than my old one, so when the 70 inch came out, it didn't do me much good, lol.
Haha well now you have an option..I wonder if the 70" is going to drop in price. It was on sale for around 3000$ last week so hopefully it drops a bit more so I can get it haha
No wonder the 70" has dropped to $2700. Must be clearing them.
BTW. I'm disappointed that plasma is losing out.
Especially LED of the same size now draw more power than typical plasma panels.
Sharp 70: 230W
Sharp 80: 220W
Panasonic 65: 159W

And a 60" is almost double the size of my current 32". I'd also be in need of a house with a media room to fit it...Originally posted by Xtrema

Actually it's almost 4 times the size of your old one.Originally posted by HiTempguy1

What I meant to say is, twice as wide
plasma does look so good. just upgraded my couple year old 1080p Panasonic to the newer ST30 3D plasma. I don't plan on ever using it as a 3D TV, and mostly bought it because Memex had the price slashed to $1k and it has less than 1 frame of input lag in game mode, and a better anti-reflective coating on it.Originally posted by HiTempguy1

But JESUS man! The old one was a great TV, especially with bright and colorful stuff on it like Avatar. But it had a lot of reflections, did really poorly in a bright room. Did bad with any lights on actually, and it was quite susceptible to image retention. It only took a couple minutes of a fixed picture to end up with noticeable after-images and since I am given over to 2+ hour sessions on Street Fighter where life bars and super meters are always on screen... not cool. You have to run the scrolling white bar for 2 hours sometimes (eight times selecting it in the menu) to get the picture to clear up.
The new one though, what a picture.. light or dark doesn't matter, the picture always pops incredibly without jacking up brightness/contrast (50% on both is more than enough). Great blacks, great contrast, you have to try VERY hard to get any image retention.. looked better than any LCD or LED I put it up against, even if the LED set in question cost $3k. Plus it has built in wireless internet (with a dongle) so I can stream stuff from a media server and play it right on the TV, and all this other jibba jabba I'll probably never use.
I <3 Panny plasmas, so much. I can't believe my new TV looks as good as it does and was only $1k. I might pick up a set of 3D glasses for it soon, just to see what it's like, but at $150 a pop I'm not in a hurry. The older plasma got moved to my bedroom and is putting in work as a 2nd monitor for my comp.
sooo uhh yeah tl;dr I love plasma tvs

^ exactly my take.
I always thought LED use less energy but it's actually the opposite.
Then why the hell am I putting up with shittier picture and lag.
I know Visions sells all 3 Panasonic 65" models, I imagine anybody who sells Panny TVs does too.Originally posted by Xtrema

I was looking at a VT30 but I'm beginning to think, at these sizes, I'll just go with a projector.
That's kinda what I'm thinking. A 80" LED TV would certainly look very impressive whether it is on or off but if you have a room big enough to warrant a TV like that.. why not a projector for less money and an even bigger screen? I guess light control plays into a projector setup more than it does for a flat panel, but still.
I've never saw a projector that has made me go "wow, what vivid color!"Originally posted by b_t

I tried front projection before and I hate:Originally posted by HiTempguy1

- Room not dark enough for good enough black.
- Projector eventually turn very noisy unless you build a room to isolate it.
- Choice of screen is crucial.
That said, I think 70" is the limit for a screen to get into my basement. Anything larger, I probably have to go projection.
Noise is the one thing I'm worried about. It's a dedicated home theater room but that doesn't mean I'm always going to have the volume cranked. I made the mistake of not considering a projector when we built the house.Originally posted by Xtrema

Would a simple shelf be fine for deflecting fan noise or is it necessary to have some sort of exhaust into the ceiling? I suppose I have to get the wires run anyway so fucking with the ceiling isn't a problem.
Sweet, I know what I'm getting myself for xmas hahaha.
