I thought of that but simply preparing food still loads it up. Peelings and trimmings etc.
Mine is quite heavy by the time 14 days pass.
I guess we don't waste food. I throw all food in there. I'm purely on a leftovers diet to not waste food.

Believe me, everything I can throw into green bin, it's going there to reduce black and blue bins filling up.

Yeah, Prader-Willi Syndrome is a lot more common than people realize.

What could people possibly be throwing out to fill up their green bins weekly aside from yard waste.

That’s what I wonder. Even if I threw out everything that we cooked for 2 weeks it wouldn’t fill that bin up.

Takeout food containers/paper bags, pizza boxes, paper towels... if someone is eating out on the regular, they could fill up a green cart pretty quickly. If my blue cart is full, all the extra cardboard goes into green bin.

I am not too sure about the cardboard and most takeout containers sir. Even compostable plastic cutlery doesn't go in there. I recall reading that it doesn't compost fast enough for the Calgary facility.
Dirty pizza boxes should go into compost, relatively clean into recycling.

My bin is has never been more than 5-10% full not counting yard waste.

The only time I have ever filled my green bin was after having a stump mulched and me cheating out on removing it.

Yeah, volume-wise, I suppose mine is a long way from full, but it gets very heavy. Especially compared to the trash bin that often only has one kitchen bag's worth in it.

We could alleviate a lot of strain on the water treatment system if we all put our toilet paper in the compost.

Cardboard isn’t on the Calgary website list, nor is it on the not allowable list. With my luck they’ll leave another what not to put in bins card for me if I load it up with cardboard haha.

Cardboard is compostable. If my blue bin is full, greasy or not, it's going into the green bin. Basically any food stained/greasy paper products (that aren't lined with plastic) are going into my green bin.

They could probably move to monthly collection for green bin but since they wouldn't charge any less, I'm fine with the current schedule lol

Yea I throw those ones in the compost. It's the cardboard boxes like the amazon packaging that should go in the blue bins.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I know cardboard is supposed to go in the blue bin.

I'm just saying, the odd time there is no room in blue bin I toss it into green bin. It doesn't hurt anything as cardboard is 100% compostable, it is just designated to go into the blue bin as it is more economical.

Of course. I heard on the radio once that they end up taking them out manually because it doesn't compost fast enough. I just bring extra shipping cardboard to one of the drop off locations.

Like super greasy pizza boxes which can gunk up the machines on the recycling side. Some grease is ok on that side.

I could even replace the ugly plunger with a poop scooping tabo and compost the poop too. So long as I don't have any diseases that transmits through fecal matter.

My Green bin is about half full every 2 weeks when they pick it up. I’d say paper towel fills about half of that. A 2.5 year and 6 month old making messes + using them to dry our hands instead of tea towels means a lot of use.

Greasy pizza boxes about once a week + compostable dog poop bags (2-3 per day) along with food scraps makes up the other quarter
