Spring and fall my green bin is overflowing every week. Good thing it's still snowing

didn't we have one member who was filling his green bin with snow in the winter? Sounded like genius. I fill mine with spruce cones a couple times a year. otherwise usually pretty empty.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Same. Also grass if I accidentally let it get too long to mulch.

It's not that I oppose composting, we just don't have enough food scraps to keep a countertop compost bin worthwhile. It takes a week to fill and then it's disgusting and has soaked through the compost bag insert, and then I have to clean the bin out. All for 20L of compost to sit in a gigantic green bin, where food gets stuck to and then maggots infest. No thank you.

^I've found that lining the bottom of the bag with a couple of paper towels and lots of coffee grinds keeps the bag bottom from falling apart from moisture. We also keep the lid open as it allows the contents to dry much more which keeps the contents even dryer as well as reducing the smell to almost nothing.

Yes the bin in your kitchen should be left with lid open 100% of the time. Virtually zero smell unless you have a lot of leftover fish.

That was me-but that was because of lack of a place to pile the snow.
